In multiple secret locations across Australia, about $100 million worth of medical supplies — including 20 million masks, antibiotics, vaccines and equipment such as basic hand sanitisers — is sitting on huge pallets wrapped in plastic, ready to be deployed.

It has been gradually accumulated over more than a decade in case of a bioterrorist attack, medical emergencies or pandemics.

It's known as the National Medical Stockpile (NMS).

And with coronavirus almost certain to be declared a pandemic, according to the Prime Minister, the stockpile is now, according to health authorities, set to become a critical element of the response to COVID-19 — its first major use in more than a decade.

A 23-year-old Iranian female professional futsal player has died from coronavirus in the city of Qom, according to the state-run Rokna news agency.

Elham Sheikhi had been hospitalized since ten days ago and died from coronavirus on Wednesday, Rokna reported.

Sheikhi had played for Iran’s women’s national futsal team. Futsal is a version of football played indoors on a hard court with five players on each team.

Just saw on CNN that the CDC want every health dept in the US testing for coronavirus by the end of next week, in anyone with matching symptoms, not just those with travel or contact history. They're going to find a ton of cases no doubt

Heard about that very sad, according to some media outlets she may have had under lying undignosed health problem .

Going to be some changes in the world after this. For example does anyone else think that the cruise industry will be severely damaged for a generation? Most of their clients are older etc.

Saw something interesting in the comments on forexlive (currency trading info site)
    https://www.forexlive.com/news/!/italy-coronavirus-cases-total-888-including-21-deaths-20200228
    4. Psychological change when the population gets back to normal status with lot less money in their pocket in lost wages and general fear of whats important to survive and save for the rainy day.
    5. Reduced consumption of non essential commodities which can cause widespread disruption in already over leveraged credit economy.

Spain said they were going to test everyone in hospital that had pneumonia,
either they didn't do it or very few tests came back positive.

Well they're after announcing another 2 cases in washington state. One had travel history to South Korea, the other is a high school student who hadn't been anywhere. He was back in school today when the results came back. School closed until further notice. Getting more worried now. I feel like this is the start of a major outbreak being discovered in the US. Debating keeping my kid home from school next week tbh

3 cases in Washington state now. About to explode in America.

Can only hope it’s a massive dent in trumps reelection hopes

He gutted the CDC budget and is now saying it’s a disease created o hyped up by the pesky democrats

This is on his watch. Hopefully it takes him down politically

How the **** can he stand there and say it's all a hoax? Ffs if anyone believes that they are absolute idiots. I dont really care about trump and the election though, more about me and my family not getting sick tbh. That's kind of the important thing here, not politics.

Hardly. And not what I said at all.

He’s directly responsible for cutting the budget of the body that finds solutions to this type of thingy.

Read again if you’re that slow and calm down with the outrage.

He slashed CDC budget. He did.

Now using this outbreak as a plot against him by his opponents. It’s a made up fake virus. To stop him getting a second term.

It’s Orwellian. And hopefully America doesn’t fall for it but they likely will.

In the U.S. alone, the flu has already caused an estimated 26 million illnesses, 250,000 hospitalizations and 14,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Its another form of the Flu, People really need to calm down about it.

China has a population of 1.386 billion and only 83000 cases have been confirmed world wide.

People need to calm the **** down. It's getting absolutely ridiculous.

The media is absolutely lapping this up and people are falling for it.

Only one here getting worked up is thee.. The rest are discussing, analyzing, making wise provision for all eventualities. Head in sand is blindness.

We are all calm. How about you? Be safe . Be wise

Is that meant to try and wind me up? Sorry not going to work.

People are making a mountain out of a moehill going by a lot of posts here and think its going to be end of the world.

Stock markets plumetting and the only ones benefiting are the media with click bait which people are falling for.

Sorry but it annoys me how stupid some people are.

Who is the we are calm you speak of. People are lapping up the hysteria. Panic buying without any rational about what they are going to do with it. That's hardly wise provision. Forwarding and repeating rumors is hardly sense and wisdom.

The whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Bit like Met Éireann weather alerts!

But it's not the flu, we have been dealing with the flu for hundreds of years.
This is new and will have to be dealt with by health care systems that are already at full capacity.
It would seem that it may be very dangerous to people with certain underlying conditions. More info is needed to help protect these people.
I think the extreme reaction some countries have taken may save others a lot of trouble in the future.

Totally agree with you that people need to calm down. The hysteria and spreading of false information makes things worse.

People in Ireland should just get on with their lives. Do wash your hands frequently with hand sanitizer thought, at the very least it may prevent you picking up some other infection.

The regular flu is also very dangerous to people with underlying medical conditions going by 250000 hospitalised and 14000 deaths in the US.

I actually think Trump is right about the Coronavirus. It's scare mongering
