Best wishes to that person and all who have had contact with them.
Will there be the deep cleaning that’s going on in the UK and if so who will pay for it?

Actually once you get into the system, the HSE is world class.

Am not surprised in the least about the case here, was inevitable.

At least we have been told about it, but relatives and so on would have put it out on SM eventually. How times have changed. It works sometimes.

We as a country think we are just so perfect and every problem will pass us by. It will not and never will.

    Ireland first confirmed case ...

The Journals take on it ...

Doctors have said they fully expected an Irish case or cases to emerge soon.

This doesn't change anything.....they would only become alarmed if it suddenly became dozens or hundreds of cases.

And they're not going to give information as to where it was. Seriously, they need to just come out and say where it is, where they were and get people who may come in contact to self isolate. Theres a choice of voluntarily locking down places as oppose to having to do it because it's gotten out of hand

It sure beats this storm (a slight breeze) malarkey.

This is the second case in Ireland. Not the first, the second. Let’s not be unionist here.

I didnt, just when i heard she had made it all the way there she bound to have spread it.

Thats some serious mental gymnastics to take offense to that lol

My thoughts on case numbers in some recent new outbreaks:

Iran - sudden increase in cases starting 9 days ago, high proportion of deaths from the beginning.
Prompted Twitter speculation about locally-evolved hypervirulent strain.

Italy - spike in cases starting 9 days ago, high proportion of deaths and ICU cases from the beginning.

Today, first death in USA (Seattle, Washington) - a woman in her 50s with pre-existing health conditions and no known contact with anyone from affected areas who died in hospital.

Why are first cases looking unusually severe in these outbreaks?

We've seen from China that if people are going to deteriorate to the point of needing ICU treatment, that takes 2-3 weeks or more.
WHO report on China said early treatment gives best outcomes.
People presenting at hospitals with severe / critical symptoms had much higher death rates.

If first cases come with high ICU case and death rates, then it's likely infection was already spreading for weeks while authorities were oblivious.
That means that there will be many more infected with less severe symptoms.

S Korea has begun mass testing (200K members of cult church are to be tested!), and so confirmed cases are running well ahead of fatalities there, and ICU cases & deaths may be reduced due to early detection.

Can we deduce that first cases were ALWAYS this bad, but this wasn’t disclosed by China? I’m just wondering this not preaching it.

We probably have way more than just the one case here, the HSE are incompetent. We will still be letting planes from places like Italy or other countries with major outbreaks into Ireland, get your brennans while you can
