THere is really no need for your tone with someone who is genuinely worried! Not everyone is as blatant about things as you may be. Rules keep changing, its bound to concern people in all sorts of ways!

And again, it's all been answered multiple times in this thread. Dozens in fact.

I repeat, 2 days ago in the high court the government stated that it was travel recommendations only.

So where in all of this and the news, did you see any mention of that changing and people being arrested see the airport?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭dartboardio

ffs this is ridiculous. How many times will the same thing be repeated over and over and over?

I mean, it was only yesterday that the high court was involved and i8t was stated very clearly that it was a recommendation only.

How gullible and unthinking are people?

Did you see the government pass a law giving Gardai the power to arrest people in the airport? No. No you didnt!

Im not gullible. I've travelled multiple times since the lifting of restrictions.

I was just wondering with these new restrictions, now I realise it's just advice, so it's all go :D

    Eastern Europe here we come.

the UK (of which a lump is in north east of the island of Ireland) is poised to reduce incoming quarantine from risk areas from 14 days to just 5 days with a negative test, opening the possibility of safer access to tourists from the likes of the USA, not governed by the travel corridors (equivalent of Irelands green list)

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/05/grant-shapps-signals-testing-plan-to-cut-14-day-quarantine-for-travellers

A similar idea is proposed by Germany with 5day quarantine and then a test, and will be likely rubber stamped in about 10 days in parallel to the european travel traffic light introduction, so its not just the brits coming up with this idea

With Irelands land border coming under such a rule, and also the largest country in the EU, might Ireland try such a plan for safe international travel from outside the green list? With the tourism industry being so seasonal, it wouldnt need to be cranked up till Easter but if there was something in place then at least people could book with reasonable certainty.

Yes, things are really moving forward on the International travel front. Between this and the EU traffic light system, we should have some certainty back in the sector by end of October. Excellent news for those in Aviation and Tourism related industries. It will likely only be a small boost initially but getting these facilities and processes in place before April next year should hopefully allow for a much better Summer 2021 throughout Europe.

Maybe this is more suited to its own thread one day but in relation to opening up again/bubbles/tests/entry requirements/etc I think it’s relevant.

    https://www.weforum.org/videos/common-pass-travelling-the-world-in-the-covid-era

I don’t like the idea at all behind this. Another ‘secure’ platform that keeps your data and health info ‘safe’

It’ll be the usual slow ramp up; Covid tests first, then the vaccine, then other vaccines including the current flu ones, then whatever’s next in time that the WHO say is a threat.

From a non profit entity that is supported by the Rockefeller Foundation called The Commons Project.

Some of the original founders of The Commons Project are also trustees of it which I’d have thought wasn’t accepted best practice for corporate governance.

    Can anyone clarify please asap?

Is an Irish citizen allowed into USA at the moment?

My wife is booked to go next week to New York to see family and her ESTA was approved

Not unless you have citizenship or a green card.

No she will not get through USCBP in Dublin Airport and the ESTA will be cancelled. I was due to travel to NY at the end of this month and asked the question and Aer Lingus told me I could apply for a voucher for the full cost of the flight but the voucher request had to be made at least two weeks prior to departure date.

I am just back from 4 days in the UK. So its not me who is worrying about travel. Maybe the OP did not see the government statement from the High Court?

Who mentioned anything about arresting people in the airport, it certainly wasn't me? The OP wasn't directing the question just at you anyway so there is no need to be so angry.

(also a lot of people do NOT go back trawling the thread to see if their question was asked a few weeks ago)

This is hilarious. Hundreds of Gardaí out on roads focusing on 'encouraging' people to go home, yet don't have the powers to enforce these restrictions.

What absolute idiots and a waste of money

Having spent the past 5-6 weeks back in Ireland for family reasons and with the impending lockdown I’m heading back to Spain soon.

Funny, the pending lockdown 2.0 has highlighted how ireland has no strategy whatsoever nor even an attempt at one. Looking at “progress” since February it’s clear that pubs and social outlets in Dublin will never reopen until there is a vaccine. My work will unlikely be back in person until next year if level 2 is ever realistic so my work will continue online.

A friend in Dublin came down with what emerged as a cold last week. From contacting his gp to getting his result took 6 days. No one seems to be talking about this in media or Government. No icu capacity has been added either.

    Ireland is fooked.

Pushed my already pushed trip to London from November to May (god I hope things are normal then)

Was meant to go last Easter but pushed to November, and now May. Until West End is properly open, I'd probably prefer to not go anyway.

Hey, do you live in Dublin? Are you flying from dublin airport?

I'm meant to be flying to Prague next week but I live outside the county of Dublin. Will public transport be stopped do you think?

Yeah I’m in Dublin. Afaik public transport is still running. Allow extra time given those farcical checkpoints

Was in Ibiza in August, going to Poland in 2 weeks, would go mad if I stayed here all the time

The high court decision is in this thread and you are supposed to read threads or at the very least use the search function. Laziness is not an excuse.

The OP asked if the travel restriction is being enforced at the airport thus my comment about arresting people. Thats usually how a law is enforced on people that ignore it no?

Apart from the theatres, the vast majority of tourist spots and events remain open. In fact the reduced lines make it more enjoyable :)

Hi faceman. Could I ask for an update on the situation in Spain please, especially the Costa Blanca region? As you can see we're back in semi lockdown here, you can't even go out for a coffee and no hope of dining out unless you're prepared to sit in the cold and rain! So what freedoms and restrictions are over there? Can you dine out? Go for a drink? Can you do it indoors?

Thanks and lucky you to be going back there!

I dont mean to hijack however I am just back from Spain 2 weeks ago. Was there for 2 months. Very normal over there, apart from wearing a mask everywhere but you get used to it.

Majority of bars and restaurants open, bars open until 1am.

It was much more normal than I thought it would be, I'd recommend going if you're considering it.

And just regards to anyone travelling in the next 2 weeks, are you still going?

We don't know what to do now as the new 'advice' with the Gardaí etc.

We are travelling in bus Éireann to Dublin airport i presume we won't be stopped?

It’s still the same rules as late summer. Bar closing time is 1am. (Which now includes casino bars).

The Valencia region is the best performing region in Spain. Last week Belgium took the region off their red list.

Cases in the Valencia region are averaging 300 a day and improving. (Valencia region has a population of 5.1m)

The Orihuela Costa which I know you’re most interested in is doing outstandingly with little to no cases being reported.

I cant speak for all of Spain but the Valencian Community (where the Costa Blanca is) is the region of Spain with the lowest contagion rate at the moment.

Restrictions are being enforced and strengthened but every region has a certain degree of freedom. Recently the Madrid Community and central government had a very vocal p*ssing contest on enforcing greater restrictions in certain areas of the city. Central government won and now 9-10 areas of Madrid are in semi-lockdown where you need a reason to be out of your home.

But again, Valencian Community is pretty chill atm. My in-laws live in Valencia and like us they have a house in Javea (in between Valencia and Alicante) and they are going about their life as normal: mask wearing, hand sanitizing, limiting the number of people they visit with indoor but effectively they go out to bars/restaurants (outdoor), go to the beach, play golf.

    Hope it helps

I go to London so much that I've done nearly all the tourist stuff. I'd waste some time in a museum when I go again, as free and indoors which is handy if it's cold and raining, but mainly go for musicals or sport

ah look, if thats your thing then thats grand. I wasnt suggesting anything.

Im the same regarding the sites but I tend to end up travelling with someone new so get to do them all again. I must have been to the same spots a dozen times now. War museum,Churchills bunker and the dungeon always seem to have changed so its kinda new each time

The ones I've tended to do multiple of are the main museums. Them being free is very handy and you can wile away some time in them.

Musicals, soccer, NFL games etc are why I generally go but that's a write off ATM. Handy city to meet other travellers through stuff like couch surfing and meetup but not sure I'd feel safe meeting up with loads of randomers now.

I used to do one day or overnight trips to see the football but as I have gotten older, it just doesnt seem worth the stupid o clock flights.

Never able to tie in an NFL game with a trip and couldnt justify the cost to the missus just for that.

I usually do the Saturday morning out and come back Sunday night, or tie it in with a bank holiday and come back the Monday night. Easy way to have a weekend away. It'll likely be one of the first trips I do when things settle down and the West End reopens properly. I'm praying that's q2 2021.
