I urge everyone abroad to come home for xmas if they want to, ignore the fear and scaremongeting from NPHET /Government, they have used travel and indeed pubs as scapegoats since the very start to cover up their own failings.

Air travel is very safe, there's not a shred of evidence to show that there air travel is responsible for a big spike in cases, airline staff fly every day so if its that dangerous where are the clusters of airline staff, there are none....just practise good hand hygiene, wear the mask , ive done it several times and absolutely no problem whatsover.

A guaranteed way to import cases of the virus into Ireland or the other way around. I'll stay put this year.

I'm.not arguing that the flight is particularly dangerous. The argument is that you could bring the virus with you or take it back with you.

I'm sure you wont mind producing evidence to show that air travel is the cause of a spike in cases, you do realise international travel accounts for less than 1% of all covid-19 cases in this country, id hazard a guess probably even less than that.

Sorry mate you'll have to try better than that

I've provided evidence several times on this thread to show that travel led to an importation of cases in the summer. The dominant strain of current COVID cases in Ireland and the UK came from Spain in the summer.

It is your turn to argue that travel isn't a major contributor to coronavirus spread.

Everyone has to decide for themselves what risk there is and what they're willing to do.

well if thats your argument then you could also say that going to Tesco is as dangerous , any supermarket ive been in is always very crowded, you could touch off something and get the virus!

You could press the traffic light button to cross the road and the last person before you touched it may have had the virus and then you get it.

if your going to be pendantic about things there you go.

what evidence, the facts are 1% of cases..ONE PERCENT , of international travel cases are attributed to covid-19, on the grand scheme of things that is minuscule.

I thought this thread was about travel discussion, where to go, precautions to be made by visiting country x and country y, travel advice from place to place.

Not someone who is making people feel guilty on traveling on literally a daily basis and constantly arguing travel is a major covid contributor.

Look, it's not illegal to travel from country to country, never has been and never will be in Ireland. You're like a bad smell the last couple of page/weeks trying to force your opinion on the rest of us.

I've starting dipping in here less and less as our travel date comes closer cause of negative posts like yourself.

The virus was carried here by travel, there is no doubting that (when is questionable), it was carried by an unsuspecting individual, just like it was carried pretty much everywhere else, travel itself doesn't make you any more or less at risk from catching it now though, that's more to do with behavior, I'm slightly hesitant about getting into close company with a bunch of strangers on a plane (not overly but the idea is in there).

Well said i agree totally with this post, this poster seems to be a prophet of doom and probably believes everything that mainsteam media government mouthpieces churn out, sick to death of not only NPHET /Government but people who just blindly believe everything they are told coming on forums like this and saying without any credible evidence to back it up that international travel is unsafe, when the reality is anything but.

ive flown a few times in the last few months, never felt safer, you follow the safety protocols, mask, hand hygiene, social distancing where possible and your chances of catching anything are very minimal.

It's quite disturbing and tragioc the amount of scaremongering and fear that has been put out there and even wporse than so many are willing to believe all of this.

well ive flown several times and no issues, of course back then no one knew about this virus so that's the reason it spread, but now everyone knows about it, and it's mandatory to wear a mask onboard a plane and sanatazing stations everywhere in airports, any flight ive been on has been either nearly empty or half full, you follow the correct safety proticols and you'll be absolutely fine.

your actuallly embarrasing yourself now mate with this nonsensical rubbish, you have failed to produce a single shred of evidence and your just pis*ing in the wind at this stage.

The situation is stable, it's present in pretty much every country (same as here) if you follow the guidelines of distancing etc then you are a little if any risk.

In years to come when the real truth comes out about all of this, how NPHET and this shambles of a government went about things and infllcited unnecessary suffering and hardship on the Irish public it wont bode well for them at all.

Here’s hoping. They need a reset of their own. Top down.

I don't blame NPHET, they are (as far as I can see) no different than an enthusiastic H&S officer when it comes to safety - very OTT but that's their job, it was always the government's to interpret their advice (along with that of others) and figure out a balanced approach, instead they've wet the bed at every opportunity.

Not in a million years would I spend 200eur on a test to fly back for a week.

I disagree. As has been pointed out already. Travel will not be stopped

I must have missed this, when is Ireland making testing mandatory?

Or maybe increase the number of crematoriums and grave yards we have?

Wake me up when it's all over.

If UK is on the red list after November 29th and you don't want to quarantine, I believe: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/irish-coming-home-face-200-covid-19-test-bill-to-cut-quarantine-period-1.4407375

I don't get the hate for nphet. They have one job and that's health. Not commerce, not travel, not social lives. Their sole function is to only look at the medical side and advise accordingly. There's other people giving advise for other areas and it's the elected governments job to consider this advise and act how they see fit

Yep they aren't, anyone can fly here without a test either before or after departure by filling in the passenger locator form and pretending to restrict their movements (whatever that means) for 14 days.

The only thing is that it will make it easier and quicker for people to return to a populated workplace/school etc after coming from abroad and without having to hide the truth.

It will make business travel a lot easier once again albeit a bit more expensive.

For anyone working from home anyway it's really no change as they can pretend to restrict their movements on return.

There is not and never has been any quarantine in Ireland.

FFS can people stop using this word regarding travel rules- ditto Self Isolation

They have continully blamed international travel and pubs without a shred of evidence, Holohan and Glynn before him seem almost fixated on not opening pubs ,their yo yo effect regarding lock downs throughout all of this has almost crippled the economy, they are unwilling to listen to other Infectious disease specialists , both here and throughout Europe who have publically said that lock downs will only serve to cripple the economy the economy doesnt seem to bother them at all, lets not forget the vast majority of people will recover from covid-19 , the actual knock on effect from these lock downs will be in effect a lot worse than covid-19 will ever be,it will last for years when this virus has dissapeared.

At one stage i think everyone was in universal agreement that we should do as they say, but as time went on people are just flabebrgasted at some of their decisions and they have all but lost a large percentage of the public, if FFG had any backbone which clesrly they dont they would say no to NPHET and open up sopciety for xmas and try and save some business and jobs.

If i understand correctly the outbound testing is not mandatory? Its just for the convinience if your destination country requires it and you dont have it already?

Doesn't peoples mental health come under the category of medical?
Have they done any surveys about the horrendous effects these lock downs are having?
Have they displayed any information to back up and support what they are doing?

Restricting your movements means staying at home to avoid contact with other people. This is sometimes called quarantine.
