Is that things like perfume jewellery and travel essentials? Do they sell much I've bought a few things on it while going on holidays with the missus.
One thing I noticed was about 3 years ago going to the Canarie islands was the aircraft used had being used on another flight and the bar carts were the same.
CC ended up running out of food and drink you would have thought that they get a fresh bar due to the length of the 2 sectors.

SAS published a statement regarding the halt of its flight operations.

    SAS statement:

Due to the coronavirus and the measures implemented by national authorities, the demand for air travel is essentially non-existent. SAS has therefore decided to put most of its operations on hold, starting Monday March 16 and until necessary prerequisites for commercial air traffic returns.

To support our customers, we will in the next few days do our utmost to uphold a certain level of operation to enable travelers to return from their destinations.

Information regarding the traffic situation and specific flights will be constantly updated on our website. Affected passengers will be notified.

The waiting time at our call centers is extraordinary long. We kindly ask that you only call us if your flight departs within the next 3 days.

Have a flight booked myself for April with the missus using Turkish Airlines, and trying to get through to either the airline or the travel agent is murder. Can change flights online but only to end April, but onsite they say they're offering free cancellation to an open ticket which is really fair. But have to ring or email their contact center, and both theirs and travel agent are jammed and received an email back basically saying "We're wedged, your email won't be got to, come back and try again." Not quite sure how that works!

They're clearly jammers and I can understand completely, but if they'd make the option available to cancel to an open ticket online we would. Just glad we're flying in a few weeks and not a few days, we still have time to sort it out.

90% of their staff are being let go/stood down for the foreseeable future. I think we will see this again and again with airlines in the coming week.

All the airlines are saying, only contact them if you are travelling in the next 72 hours.

Governments cannot sustain the investment the aviation industry’s needs. Health systems are creaking and gobvenments are attempting to support thousands who lost their jobs. Airlines are so so far down the list

Evacuation flights out of Spain this week. Wonder if it's because Spain is shutting down air travel or we are.

    Wonder can anyone answer this.

Morocco has released a statement banning international flights today, but it looks like a Ryanair flight still took off today at 3.20pm.....

Just a bit of curiosity as I was supposed to be on the flight, but will it be allowed to land?

Do even the bigger airlines have the power to come the other side of this?

    Neither.

A lot of flights were cancelled over the weekend leaving thousands stranded.

FR and EI are consolidating all flights due to fly over the next number of weeks, waiving change fees. Everbody out by thursday. Extra flights including larger aircraft.

After that anybody who choses not to come home will be on their own, id say very few flights between ireland and spain after thursday.

That’s a question nobody can really answer right now.

Read the information. Extra flights and no change fees. No gouging.

Aren't Ryanair still charging you the difference in fare price? All theyve done is waive the €100 plus change fee.

The issue here is complicated by Spanish ATC having staffing issues. So there is some negotiation to get slots to ensure flights can happen.

EI appear to be sending a A330-300, so can carry a lot more passengers in each ATC slot and could tanker the fuel needed for the return leg, so more people per flight, fewer flights needed.

20-30k in Spain, so thats a lot to get home if they all want to come back, will EI and FR accept each others passengers?

The staffing issue is they are holding back staff due to covid19 because they cant all be infected or the whole lot stops.

Will be a lot of flights to get this done

Is that to keep slots open?

That rule has been suspended I think

Finnair cancelling 90% of their flights from 1st April. And introducing the cancellations gradually between now and then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,500 ✭✭✭Jack1985

IAG (Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling) suspending 75% of flights for April and May with rolling cancellations until end of March.

Supposedly still needs ratified at EU Level and that won’t happen until 26th March. Given the circumstances though, you’d like to think they could overlook it with immediate effect!

Also a lot of empty outbound flights to holiday destinations going out to take people home.

We were due to fly to Tenerife today, obviously the holiday had been cancelled by Jet 2 but our flight will still be departing empty to bring a full load home.

IAG shares down 20% and 75% of flights cancelled

Ryanair announces seat capacity reduction of 80% for April and May and cannot rule out grounding the entire fleet.

Well 25% of operations is severe but its a lot better than a few other European airlines.

At least that will put to bed the idea that the airport is shutting down.
