Best of luck getting to the airport with the travel distance limitations

Those apply to leisure/exercise; not anything else. Biggest misinterpretation of the entire thing so far really.

It was misinterpreted under the 2km exercise rule, when 5km came in it applied to non essential travel as well as exercise, the Gardai won't be enforcing anymore anyway so it won't matter.

There will be a few big positives to come out of this. Regular disinfection of short-hauls fleet between flights will be a huge improvement, particularly in cold/flu season in winter.

And on a pettier level an update to the seating assignment process which ends people being seated beside me in economy, when the plane is half empty, will also be a fantastic improvement. No more awkwardly having to wait to see if they move to a free seat themselves, or suggesting they do so, or having to climb out over them to do so if they don't.

Just don't forget that with the government recommendations for "no unnecessary travel" that if you do go off on your holidays your travel insurance will not be valid.

    Broken record at this stage.

Something airlines and so called consumer 'jounalists' fail to mention.

Nice opinion, but I suppose the 1 billion they have in cash reserves might shield them. Why do you think they were such an attractive investment by IAG!?

A billion is not that much when you are facing refunds left right and centre along with fixed costs you can't just stop and virtually zero revenue.

Of course it's a good business (in normal times) which is why IAG bought it and I've acknowledged that but in its former ownership structure its pockets were not as deep.

Anyway its irrelevant as luckily for all of us, it has a strong parent to help get it through these unprecedented times.

Not a problem within the EU, Iceland, Lichtenstein, UK or Switzerland thanks to EU laws entitling citizens to free healthcare throughout the bloc, or pre existing CTA stuff in the case of the UK.

Edit: Forgot Norway. That’s covered too.

Let’s not overlook the fact that IAG’s largest shareholder is the Qatari government.... (two of Aer Lingus’ A330’s came from Qatar Airways, on very good terms)

IAG will see this trough and be in a better position that most when things go back to normal

    LCY is opening soon

Hopefully Dublin flights will resume at some point as well. Would be good to avoid LGW and LHR the next time I visit London. (Maybe August, Covid permitting)

The post comes with a caveat as it is Dublin Live but it has direct quotes from an interview with Eoghan Corry on Newstalk yesteday.

Covers the onboard experience and Dublin airport, apologies it's not letting me cut and paste the full text.

Travel for Irish people to countries where Covid-19 has been successfully suppressed will return in a number of weeks, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys has said.

Its not as if international travel is currently banned anyway, with our very loose arrivals voluntary quarantine. But it appears that even the official narrative is changing rapidly. It looks like we're following the rest of the EU and aiming for a June return to 'normal'ish. So much for all the doom and gloom of no international air travel ever in 2020...

Simon Harris will be disappointed so after telling us not long ago no air travel in 2020

The UK (well, England) is the very definition of NOT supressed currently and little sign of it getting there; so don't expect that travel to resume as quickly.

That doesn't seem to be the case at all. Lots of European countries are currently opening their borders to the UK over the next few weeks:

European countries including Turkey, Greece, Spain and Portugal are keen to adopt “transport corridors” as soon as next month that would let British holidaymakers visit Mediterranean resorts without quarantining for 14 days on their return.
    [..]
Reyes Maroto, Spain’s tourism minister, on Thursday said the government was keen to open up to Britain. “It is our principal [tourism] market,” she said. “We trust it will be very soon that we can receive British tourists.” [..]More generally, Spain will relax its 14-day quarantine on July 1.
    [..]
All Greek airports will be open from July 1 to international flights — including British ones — with random testing of arrivals. “It was decided to open up to everyone at the same time and not discriminate. The UK is our second-biggest market after Germany,” he said. More than 3m tourists went to Greece from the UK last year.
    [..]
Augusto Santos Silva, [Portuguese] foreign minister, said there could be a deal by the end of June, with visitors able to return to the UK without being quarantined. Portugal plans to check the temperatures of passengers when they arrive but has ruled out quarantining tourists.

Varadker also advised people not to book flights yet and the June 29th date applies to domestic tourism with no decision made on international travel yet.

Advised is the operative word. He can't actually stop people from leaving the country and the 14 day quarantine on entry is also only advisory. The only mandatory part is the filling out of the form.

DAA looking at having people queue in car parks in order to comply with 2m rule.

How do they expect passengers to come subject to those conditions?

Wont happen, the 2m will be relaxed in some circumstances I would imagine.

Who's going to queue in a car park in the lashing rain

Well I imagine they would erect marquees or something of they were to do that bit I agree nobody would do that

I've started noticing people not bothering with 2m lark and staff in places have given up being Sgt majors. It'll all be there for show and people will get back to normal

    Where did you hear that?

Queuing in a car park? For what, to validate your parking ticket? Sure that was usually the case...

Queue for security I guess as with 2m it just won’t work. As above though the 2m thing will have to go in some cases

Apparently it’s the only way they can maintain the 2 metre distance between people

I've heard so many different versions of how this really works including getting in touch with the DFA, does anyone* actually know?

People are being asked to exercise some social responsibility.

Whether they do or not is being left up to them.
