Not much suspense on the NUI panel - Ronan Mullen is elected on the first count, Michael McDowell is just shy of the quota, and Alice-Mary Higgins will be returned once Hearne and Coppinger are eliminated.

12 candidates remaining for the Labour Panel, and 11 seats - if Eileen Flynn is elected, I believe she would become the first Traveller ever in the Oireachtas:

Flynn is eliminated, and the panel concludes:

There's a gloriously bitter 'speech from the dock' post on Coppinger's Facebook page.

Of course she manages to blame everyone and everything for her failure.

Eternally bitter and negative. Politics will be the better for her absence.

Last two panels to come up are smaller in terms of seats but the Industrial panel has a ridiculous number of candidates

Impressive first count performance by the Soc Dem candidate, Niall O'Tuathail, but a tight battle against Labour's Mark Wall, and as per the Greens, the question of where either will pick up transfers is key:

Three with zero votes. If they did any level of canvassing at all and didn't convince one Councillor to vote for them...

One of them is FG at that! Not even an independent

This may be useful to see parties beside names now that we're through the FG cannon fodder. Seriously, what awful party discipline must they have to have that many no hopers get nominations?

Timmy Dooley probably the most high-profile casualty from any of the panels so far.

FG had 3 quotas on the Industrial panel and, failing some surreal transfers now, will only get two seats from it.

Awful, awful performance. Lots of egos, hence more candidates than seats, and something causing votes to spill before fully transferred through the party too.

No, lets be clear, awful MANAGEMENT, just like the Dáil Election.

Varadkar is presiding over a sh1tshow.

Elisha McCallion has not received a single transfer so far. In 28 counts. And yet is still a dead cert to be elected.

With 84 votes in play now, wouldn't have thought anyone from her down could be absolutely confident?

They need to break very cleanly to Wall/O'Tuathail/Keoghan to get her out; that I would find unlikely but stranger things have happened. Like having to do a countback of sorts to decide who had the zeroest zero earlier!

And that strange thing was Keogan getting in ahead of O Tuathail.

Timmy Dooley probably the most high-profile casualty from any of the panels so far.

Somebody's been at his wiki page!
In 2019, he was involved in the Dáil voting scandal.[3]

He lost his seat at the general election in February 2020.

Timmy Dooley Timmy Dooley got his Arse kicked again in Senate election.

Rejected twice by people of Clare and Senate electoral panel.

Niall Collins Niall Collins pressed Timmy Timmy's voter button in the Dail, becauseTimmy Timmy wanted to leave early to avoid the traffic.

Thankfully, Timmy Timmy will never be a Government Minister.

Where will Timmy Timmy get a job now.

Nobody wants a loser, especially a stupid one.

Not my doing, but good riddance to another member of the government that crashed the country

Catherine Noone changed her username. Some parody account took her old username of 'senatornoone'. She didn't update her website, as the website is know showing tweets from the parody account!

Independent transfers have heavily favoured Conoma and Moynihan so far - Conoma will be out himself in a few counts; if the next pref down is Moynihan there she'll be home and dry early...

Poor Ruth Coppinger. She’ll have to go back to teaching. https://www.rte.ie/news/politics/2020/0401/1127722-seanad-election/

Subpanelling is going to kick in with the next count and automatically elect Martin Conway (who was going to get elected anyway and Fiona O'Loughlin Healy (who may get over the line on that count anyway) due to the panel rules; as Conoma will be excluded and there's no other Outsides left.

Conomas transfers will decide this now.

Gavan Reilly helpfully provides a party breakdown of the 49 "elected" seats:

Good election for Labour. Awful election for FG. SF won't be too happy either. FF I imagine think it went well. Extremely bad luck for the SDs.

Technical group formation could be difficult now - depends who are the Taoiseachs nominees. CEG may not be able to get enough to exist basically. Labour are back to not needing anyone.

SF's bad result was predictable given that they're transfer poison and had a horiffic local election last time out.
