    Hi there,

Any idea how much it would cost to put a doorway into a stud wall? Just want to make a small box room into a walk-in wardrobe.

    Many thanks!

250/400 (depends on where you are living) labour as long as theres no cables or pipes in the way, not including materials

If, as the previous poster said, there are no cables, pipes etc in the wall (get a stud finder to check), and it is not load bearing btw!!, a simple handsaw (€6), a pad saw (€10) a length of 2x4 timber (€16), architrave (€8) and a length of planed timber approx 6 inches wide is all you need to do it yourself for less than €40.

Mark out your proposed opening (at least 2ft 6in wide) using a spirit level to get the new doorway lines vertical and horizontal. Use the pad saw to start the cut. Once you have sufficient room, use the hand saw. Remove the plasterboard cut and any stud wall you've cut through. Use the 2x4 to frame the new opening by screwing it into the original stud wall. This will sit inside the remaining plasterboard. Use the 6 inch planed timber to place over this which will cover the 2x4 and the edges of the plasterboard. Then place architrave around the opening to finish it off.

It'll take less than an hour minus any light redecoration afterwards around the new opening.
