Kerry game was perfect for me. I was cooking the whole of the first half and only got to sit down and watch second half.

The first half wasnt that bad. Bar Comerford's poor mistake thought Dublin played well in patches. Actually ex Monaghan legend Conor McManus said he thought Dublin were the better team in first half. I wouldn't go that far but the strong wind was a factor in Kerry's ht lead. There was no need to panic or tear strips of the team at that stage imo.

Double header in Croke Park on Saturday

    17.15, Dublin v Offaly

    19.30, Dublin v Derry

Two good games. Double headers can be good but i find Croke Park can get so damn cold in Jan/Feb it can cut you in half if your there for four hours. It took me about 3 hours to thaw out after the club finals.

It's a shame the football supporting fraternity don't go in for the 1st game. In relation to EOD, he would be a good target man for high balls or lay offs aka Kieran Donaghy role.

You get a sea breeze coming off the Irish Sea into the back of the Cusack Stand and the season ticket holders get frozen.

Hard to sit through two matches in that context.

Settled sides in both the hurling and football -

    Hurling

    Football:

Weather seems decent too. I think I lost my Dublin wooly hat though. I might still regret that.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Feck was good entertainment between Offaly and the Dubs. Can’t help but think D. Burke should have been on frees at start instead of C. Currie.

We never get the rub with referees in hurling but that was ridiculous.

Dubs playing well against Derry. Gifted them some silly frees from 'new rules cock ups ' but defence and midfield doing very well in breaking down Derry plays. With Con warming up on the sideline too it should be an entertaining second half 🤞

Gas all the booing and whistling when Derry only had 2 forward in the last 10 minutes, even commentators on gaago kept wondering why referee didn't spot it. What everyone seemed to have forgotten is Derry had a player black carded so everything was as it should be 😅

Overall a decent showing hope Sean is OK maybe so as he just about walked off means it might not be too serious. Derry quite poor but we are in a good place now to maybe even make the final which I thought was unlikely even after the first match.

That was funny alright thought I missed some mad incident or something.

Are you in Ireland, I tried to subscribe earlier to watch it, but it said not available in the island of Ireland.

That rule should be tweaked, if an offending team is reduced to 14 players they still should be made keep the three back.

I thought that football performance was the best of the league so far, won pulling up against a dangerous Derry side. Controlled the game when it mattered. Great movement from the players as well. Nice scores.
The Brogans must have had an influence on Bugler. Starting to play like them. I hope he was not too injured.

Was lucky enough to be at his championship debut in a “dead rubber” super 8 game in Omagh v Tyrone 2019. He was the best player on pitch that day - fearless. Tyrone crowd were asking who he was etc.

I suppose they were/are afraid it would be two much of a penalty that way, it would mean not only an extra man but a load of space for the team a man up.

Was at the game tonight, delighted with the win, that's 6 points now, so safe in D1. Peculiar game, pedestrian at times, not much intensity. Dublin should have won by more, some bad wides, messy at times with possession but it's great to win well and have lots to work on. Hope Bugler's injury isn't too bad. Derry were shocking. Thought Howard had a great game, he was everywhere.

great win, some poor performances EO’D had a bad night, although the open shoot out didn’t suit him, still should have done better with some of chances, although one of goals came off him causing chaos. New rules can be v frustrating, how is Comeford meant to hand the ball back for a free when the ref has played a long advantage and there is no Derry player near him? Giving a tap over free for that is a not farcical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,128 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

I agree it's not clear in that situation but Comerford should have known better than to just throw the ball away

I thought Howard was great last night. Seem to be everywhere

At the moment because the team with the extra man has to keep the extra man in their own half, there is an incentive to a team hanging on to a slender lead to take a black card for the team.

Was a strangely comfortable win taught Derry would be much better so it's hard to know what to take from it. We have improved since the first few games but there's bigger tests to come yet to see where we really are.

1-09. vs 0-01 down vs Armagh after 20 minutes.

Dubs had a lot of possession but the forward’s misfiring and the backs looking like they are static as disinterested. First sub for Dublin was after 14 minutes and Dublin finally on the scoreboard. Earlier a right cock up under no pressure that sees us concede a 45, 3 goes at controlling a ball but shins it out… the ref is killing us, every 50/50 challenge Armagh are getting a free, we can’t buy one. They are literally scoring from almost every attack 1-10 to 0-02 now. The Armagh forwards are not being marked it’s mad.

Bad wide when the goal chance was on for Dublin but we couldn’t even take the point, shanked high and wide, Armagh straight down the other end and are clinical, point. So many lazy missed passes, costs us another point there. And again, the finishing 🤮 and ref again, jeeez.

**** awful performance so far doing nothing right. Are you telling me there's not one footballer in the whole squad who can catch a ball from a long kick out!?

This is as bad as we can play can only get better unfortunately I don't think it will be tonight far to much going against us including ourselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭rolling boh

It has been unforced errors that has really killed us our kickouts have been a disaster as well ,lucky to be only eleven down .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,183 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

This has been the big consistent problem for us in the league so far every game we had to play the ball long we have struggled. This suits Armagh perfectly game in there back garden there a team who plays high up pitch very physical there doing exactly what I taught Derry would of done last week.

We need to sort this kick out situation because every team in country is gonna target us knowing we don't have the midfield to win them. Maybe this is what is going to bring Cluxton back in.

EOD needs to go back to the small ball game. He's nowhere near the player in football that he is at hurling

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,038 ✭✭✭MFPM

I know Derry were poor last week but to go from that performance to this shambles is unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,183 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

He's grand as squad player and maybe in easier games but in a game against a top team he shouldn't be starting.

That's what I mean. He can and did hold his own against the best in the country in the hurling. He looks well off the pace at the same level in football.
