Patience required, the sun should be out in Dublin within an hour to hour and a half hopefully.

This one is a giant already and still rising over Croghan mountain 8 kms west of Arklow

Damp cloudy and rather cool in CO Offaly. Complete opposite of yesterday. Will be amazed if we see sparks here today. We didn't yesterday with the supposed right conditions. Luck of the draw.

Loving the pictures, I have high hopes the dry spells ends today for me.

Cool, damp day in West Dublin. Low gloomy sky. Certainly not conduscive to thunderstorms. No sign of sun breaking through, in fact it has gotten even more greyer in the last hour. Ah well, the once in a year opportunity for a decent storm has been lost.

    Relentless :pac: career contrarian.

This is the sounding from Aberporth, west Wales, at 06Z this morning, advecting this way. Shows that, regardless of orographic lift, a surface temperature of around 20 degrees will be enough let hell break loose. A pretty wide CAPE profile also means strong updrafts and overshooting tops. Watch for hail in the bigger showers.

The sea long the coast here in north county Dublin is feeding in endless amounts of dull and gloom. Unless there's a miracle, I can't see anything kicking off here at all. :o

Strikes showing up on the radar over the Wicklow mountains

we need a miracle to shift this damp grey cloud. Hopefully it will burn off within the next hour and temperatures can lift with hopefully some sunshine.

Of the airports, only Waterford mentions thunderstorms in the TAF. Casement just moderate showers. THere's a big difference in CAPE values between Casement (~800) and Dublin Airport (0) this afternoon. All activity should be from Kildare-ish south.

Waterford TAF, mentioning chance of thunderstorms with hail between 1 and 5 pm.

The visible satellite tells a picture (https://www.met.ie/latest-reports/satellites/ireland-visible). The cloud proving very stubborn to shift. The storm formation over Wicklow/Kildare is quite evident.

Doubt it. By the time this cloud lifts, it will be to late to get the sunshine to lift the temperatures sufficiently. Flogging a dead horse at this stage. Not being intentionally pessimistic, I'm being realistic. I'm as disappointed with no thunderstorms as everyone else is.

And still almost an hour till solar noon. The clearance along the east coast looks pretty much imminent.

So today looks to be the last day for thunderstorms this week. Areas that still need rain should see it at some point during the next seven days.

Overcast with lifted fog in Durrow since daybreak. Just approaching 17.0°c and a dewpoint of 14.2°c in a very light NNW drift - 2.3mph gusting 5mph. Muggy and mild, air is like soup.

Was thinking it feels allot cooler compared to this morning in Kilkenny. No science to back it up.

Just wanna say thanks for everyone of the experts on here, you always make these events a bit special for weather heads like us <3
