A welcome 2.6mm of rain, won't complain, its better than 0.0mm, the heaviest rain in the thunderstorm seemed to go a little south of me.
    It's the veggie path watered.
It's a unique state of affairs when Kilkenny, of all places, can actually squeeze more rain out of the sky than Galway. It is the inverse of normal.

UK Met Office. (not sure what hi res model they use) but I posted a chart earlier showing what Gerry Murphy spoke of.

South east picking up a bit again.
Hard to know what direction its going. The wind the past few days can't seem to make up its mind. ME says its going in all directions!

It's almost as if there's a higher population density which leads to more reports. That couldn't be it though, must be some conspiracy.

Gerry Murphy a few moments ago forecast activity to reignite onto the east coast during the night, following something of a lull in the late evening.

    There goes the thread :pac:

Does anyone think that the synoptics on Thursday look a little like those of July 1985? I know the upper dynamics are different, but like what is forecast for Thursday, July 1985 saw a slack low develop over the Celtic sea and move northwards along with its embedded frontal zones.

Active cells over the Wicklow mountains aided by orographic lift. All going the wrong way though.

    Good few strikes all around the south east the last few minutes - here's a handy link: https://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#m=sts;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=64.35;ts=0;z=8;y=52.427;x=-6.651;d=2;dl=2;dc=0;

SE most active area at the moment, plenty of convection still going up and shear still evident .

Nice cell near Youghal, very heavy rainfall returns.

East Coast seems to have quietened a bit again.

Well we should have torrential rain and thunderstorms here according to numerous forecast sources.

Not a drop or flash to be seen nor a sound to be heard.

All the rain and activity over Dublin at the moment fizzling out before it gets near.

Just an extremely unpleasantly dull murky evening.

It's amazing, that cell has been over Youghal since about 1pm.

There has been zero rain here in D5. Over the past week despite all the grim forecasts we really haven’t got the rain i thought would come. 20mm so far in June at Dublin airport. After only 53mm for the whole of March to May, that is still a very low rainfall return

All the pitches near work (Dublin) are light brown and heading towards being burnt dry at this rate.

The bogs here at home have been in various stages of inferno to heavy smouldering for weeks on end.

Could really do with a proper deluge that's at least fun to watch.

Not this murky, humid, overcast sauna we have been getting with an occasional sprinkle of rain.

The torrential shower we got in Lucan this evening was impressive and the raindrops were massive. Only a few distant rumbles. Skies are clearing now.

Is there a chance of more later?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,855 ✭✭✭Nabber

Gerrys forecasts was a pleasant surprise. I thought we’d peak at dusk. With little to no activity at night.

I’m in Clontarf, so not expecting much this close to the sea, but there has been some spectacular cloud formations.

Night time thunderstorms are a lot more impactful than day time. There is something ominous about the sky lighting up for a split second. A display of nature’s power.

Still nothing on the northside, thankfully

Mad we didn't get a drop in Dublin 8

We didn’t get a drop in Dublin 5 either, it’s bizarre how localised the weather is

Nothing in D6; M50 seemed to be a barrier

A cell has just popped up on the Northside of Dublin, close to the m50.... Vicinity of finglas

Serious activity through Wexford still. They've done very well the last few days, and will again over the next couple of days by the looks of it.
