The Ireland match on RTE2 last night was in the EPG as highlights when of course it was the full match. Also maybe it's just me but does the EPG update in real time as well as the Horizon?
I was impressed how RTE and BBC listings would be updated when say Claire Byrne got put on earlier at 9.35pm or maybe a Newsnight special on BBC or Casualty delayed on Saturday etc. on the Horizon.

Highlights ! That would have needed 1 minute .

Has anyone been able to hold on to a loyalty discount and get the new box out of Virgin? I renewed with them in July and I got a half-price loyalty for 9 months.

They promised me the new box for free when it became available. Of course, now they are saying they can't do it. It's very annoying. I'm struck with Horizon for another 6 months.

I spent an hour on the phone with them and CS agent was sure she could do it, but she couldn't re-apply the discount. I would be re-contracted for 105 a month for one year.

They also said in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnEBcckPPCc that they were waiving the €50 activation for existing customers.
This is now charged if I go to "upgrade" using the website.
No i hsvent been able to hold on to my loyalty discount either getting charged the amount. But the 50 was waived and VM are sending out a technican to install the box. I was going to install it myself but since they are willing to do it for free.

The annoying thing is the price will probably go down closer to Christmas.

Hi all. Ordered my upgrade tonight. Been with the old horizon box for too long.

In the past I always have requested a modem only from virgin. I use my own router and mesh network (synology).

Just wondering if anyone else is the same and have upgraded?. Do I need to request a new modem to avail of the 500mb or does the 360 box and new modem/router ship together?.

Any info would be much appreciated.

What Virgin Modem do you have now?
    White Compal will handle 500mb.

Same I've notice this. Netflix in particular through the box I have it on 28 through the 360 box, through the TV Netflix app volume only needs to be at 10 or 12.

I found that if you go Settings>Audio and Video>Dolby Audio and change it to Off, or "Follow Content" the volume is back to the levels I remember from the old box. I had to do this for programmes I recorded on E4 as I had to put the volume up to about 35 withe the Dolby Audio set as Always On.

Did you all get it next day, as it says on their website? It says two contrasting things. 1. Delivered next day if ordered before 6, and 2. We are updating our systems so there may be a delay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 531 ✭✭✭BanjoB

I just received mine this morning after ordering Sunday night.

I now have the issue where I cant enable modem only mode on the new router. I have my own router and only want to use the new virgin one as a modem.

Anyone have any ideas?. Anyone else using the new virgin router/modem as a modem only?.

I am currently 4 months into a bundle where I was given a horizon box where I have the first 6 months at a discount.

I called Virgin to see if I can get the Virgin TV360 setup but they have said as im an existing customer I would have to sign a new contract paying FULL PRICE of 104 euros a month.

Has anyone persuaded VM in getting the discounted bundle with the Virgin TV360 box in the middle of a contract?

I tried a couple of months ago, no luck.

Had the same issue (see a few posts back!) - After the last call they said it was actually possible, but just not available online and they could not order it for me as working from home. They wanted to transfer me to tech.

I lost patience at that point and hung up. No matter what combination I tried on the website, it's not possible. I think I'm just going to wait until my discounted 9 months is up in April.

Got it sorted. Just a simple "Enable Modem Mode" in the router config.

Have to say the new 360 box is night and day compared to that hold horizon box.

Only downside I see is that the mini box doesn't work over WiFi or ethernet. It needs a coaxial connection too.

If it was just wif enabled with would have made it much easier and more versatile.

Recordings and On-Demand work on the mini box without Coaxial connection. You only need that for live tv.

The router I use for my home network is a Synology RT2600.
The new router/modem virgin sent is the hub4 as far as I can see. I just use that now as a modem.

It was all too good to be true.

Just found that if you have a Sonos Beam over ARC then this new box does not correctly output dolby 5.1 to the beam and it only receives a stereo signal.

Even the old horizon box did this no problem. This is a big deal for me and a big Dissappintment. Leaving it here in case anyone else come accross this.

Don’t know about the Sonos Beam, however I’m using the 360 box connected to a TV with a Sonos Arc sound bar and it outputs Dolby 5.1 no problem

Does anyone know how to stop the 360 box from re-recording programmes I have watched and deleted?
It has re-recorded "A league of their own" 3 times since I deleted, and has done the same with other programs that I have watched and deleted.

It does that when you series link a show. It will record repeats of the same episode. It's annoying I have to keep deleting things out but don't want to cancel the series link.

We all need to change our behaviour. I must admit I always like deleting show's if I have watched and don't plan on keeping to re-watch.

We need to stop deleting show's. The hard drive is huge. Eventually when we need space near full then we can start deleting.

I can't see this situation changing -too many scenario's for a software update to fix.

Better recording too much than miss an episode.

That's one of the most annoying things on the Horizon box. I can't believe it persists with the new box

If people keep deleting episodes it will go after them if on series link which make sense. If however episode is kept on hard drive it will not record a repeat is my understanding.

But the Box should only record an episode once. I've a UPC HD box (for nearly 10 years) and it never records the same episode more than once, so why does the Horizon and the new 360 box do this. It's a basic function nowadays I would have thought

Got my first bill since upgrading to 360. No surprise that the promotional price of €88 is nowhere to be seen, and they are charging me €98 instead.

They still haven't fixed my TV channels either - a word of warning, never use the online form to contact Virgin Media.

I wish they could get something right even once.

@mackersdublin - It should only record an episode once if you don't delete that episode. If you have series link on, it will keep recording that same episode if you keep deleting the previous recording off it.

I'm sure it's possible to make a more advanced algorithm but it could become too clever and miss an episode you wanted because you only started recording the first showing off episode 1 half way through etc.

If a series is repeated three months later it will start recording if you have deleted it from your recordings. Bit off a pain but again it seems to be a 'better safe than sorry approach'.

Personally I must check my list everyday but as previously stated try and resist the temptation to always delete stuff straight away after watching.

Off course this means I will end up with a much bigger list to scroll through.

I'm finding the new box very good. However one issue is that unless you set the standby to 24hrs from the default 5hr standby mode is it won't remote set recordings from the app fail.
So currently if I set something to record over 5hrs after the box being in standby it will show up as a failed recording.
Unless I'm missing something?, because I've tried it. Setting to never be in standby (24hr option) seems a waste of resources.

Has anyone experienced the following with RTE one. Usually on a Sunday replay TV will stop working. And for the last week replay on RTE one has sound distortion.

Happy to not have a massive box under the TV cabinet too.

Rang Virgin to see if there were any offers at all for existing customers on the 360 packages.

They wouldn't/couldn't budge at all on the website listed prices for existing customers which is a bit disappointing.

Series Link launched in the early 2000's on Sky+. The whole point of the feature is to save the customer having to repeatedly record each episode of a TV series. For example - Modern Family Series 1 has 24 episodes, so you set the box to record the series once, not 24 times

If I've watched the first 4 episodes and have deleted them from my box, why would I want the box to record the episodes I have watched and deleted from my box again. I stand corrected, but I doubt on Sky+ or Sky Q, the box would record episodes multiple times

Have the box a couple of weeks now. So far much better than the horizon box.

One annoying thing is the remote is quite large also as mentioned before I dont know why there isnt a dedicated button for recordings.

This is the very same box that Virgin UK are giving 2 of for free with their top package.

The €50 charge should be considered a Paddy Tax - used to subsidise our Lords and Masters across the water.

I thought it was safe to delete episode 1 of 'Trump' after EP2 was broadcast and recorded but didn't they go and broadcast yet another repeat of EP1. Which the TV360 box recorded  Which made it the third time that episode was recorded. I deleted EP1 as soon as I watched it because the Horizon box would not have recorded it again.

I think the issue is that the TV360 box thinks that you may have missed that episode because (e.g.) you didn't do a series record until after the first episode was broadcast. So it picks up every episode that isn't already in the can and records it. Until they upgrade the s/w to log what you've recorded and watched, the solution appears to be to keep every episode in your library until you've watched the last one, then delete all episodes and the series record instruction.

Does the 360 Box show the full title of programmes and films?
Horizon box truncates longer programme titles which is very annoying and quite frankly ridiculous.
In addition do they show the year of release of films on Sky Cinema on 360 box?
Horizon unbelieveably doesn't and only shows bare minimum cast list.
