Eventually got this paired again with a combination of the helpful advice here plus one other important step as follows:

    1. Take batteries out of remote
    2. Switch off box using switch at the back
    3. Leave for a few minutes
    4. Insert batteries
    5. Switch on box.
    6. NB: when the welcome screen is showing, do the pair remote action, I.e. hold TV and 0 for 10 seconds.

Then it all worked again! 2 months I've been trying to do this lol

    Well done!!

I see rte have removed catch up tv altogether, no option to play from start on any show now. What a petty operation. Also means I'm less likely to watch their news now. Ah well

Particularly annoying given the awful state of the RTÉ “Player”

Virgin Media Customer's deserve an explanation for removal off replay function from RTE 1 and RTE2. My guess is RTE threw a hissy fit.

Probably the same reason why Virgin keep their channels off the Saorview Connect service.

    +1

Looks like you can still get RTÉ player content via “on demand” not as easy as the replay feature. Agree about an explanation

Installed my new 360 box this morning, all going well regarding the TV etc but my broadband is still only at 250mb but I’ve signed up for 500mb.
Before I ring Virgin Media is there anything I should have done while setting up the box?
I don’t see anything in the manuals that came.
    Thanks

You might have to restart the router. I didn't have to restart mine when I upgraded to the 360 bundle but in the past I did have to restart when moving from 120 to 240 broadband.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,760 ✭✭✭Delta2113

RTE Player only SD on 360 - Replay was HD.

    Tried that still no joy.

    Is their billing completely broken?

I mean I'm not complaining, but 2/3 months in and I am paying less than I did before I added TV 360.

Before I had just had broadband it was 60+ then I added tv and it's dropped to 50ish...

When I visit the billing section on the portal it tells me bill total is 80 euro (the correct amount) when I expand that it says total due 53 euro. Erm... fine.

There are loads of credits for calls (I don't use the phone) Four lines of credits actually, and then a separate discount of 10 euro (which they offered). Very odd. In fact, every line on billing history has a different amount due - when you expand it's always a different amount actually billed...

Happy days but defiantly wrong on their side...

    Hi All,

Apologies this is probably covered elsewhere, but the thread is 51 pages long and so hard to trawl through.

Moved house in August, place was prewired for Virgin so got their broadband and tv, and having been a sky customer for 10 years I find the horizon box frustrating to the point of being borderline unusable.

Is the 360 box a marked improvement? Is it possible to get one as an existing customer without it costing an arm and a leg and if so is there any guidance on how to get that? As it stands I'm pretty much counting the days to July to be able to cancel and get sky installed.

    Good to know.

Obviously I signed up with a new customer offer, so I'm paying reduced terms for the first year. There anyway to get the new box without massive additional costs? Or do I have to wait out the first year?

I tried to get the new box, I'm on a loyalty discount and they will not budge. I presume it's the same as a new customer on an introductory discounted rate.

You can get the new box on "The Bigger than Big Bundle", but it's €104 a month.
I'm going to wait until July until my discount expires and order it then.

You get used to the Horizon box after a while. And to be fair to VM, I find the picture a lot better than Sky, where you have to pay extra for HD channels.

Fair play to you. I wasted a whole day of my life trying to get it for free, but they wouldn't do it..
So you got the 500MB broadband, 32 HD channels plus home phone for €88?

Has anyone been able to get the new box to work with an LG tv remote. I've an LG C8 and when I go through the set top box setup and select virgin media it doesn't detect the remote after several attempts

Can you explain a little bit more about what you are trying to do?

A universal remote you need to choose UPC/D4A/Mediabox as teh new box uses the old codes ( from teh box before horizon)

But it also kinda sounds like you're trying to use the TV to receive cable.. which isnt going to work at all.

The STB connects to HDMI and the HDMI sends the STB, via the HDMI manufacturer detection protocols, what TV you have and the STB remote uses the manufacturer codes.

Got the 360 yesterday. As a Horizon survivor, I was skeptical of going back to Virgin but it's night and day. Interface is very quick, no delay changing channels, none of the bugs (yet) that plagued Horizon and appears to be less superfluous crap than before also.

The new router (black one) is a a nice piece of kit. I'm on the 500 MB package, the router is in my sitting room and up in the attic I'm still getting 150 MB on WiFi.

I just want to do some basic stuff like change channels on the virgin box with my LG tv remote. I got it working by setting the box up using the UPC option in the LG device connector menu

Did the router come with the v360 or did you have to ask for it,I thought they were rolling it out on a phased basis.

Good to see that Replay TV has been restored to RTÉ 1 and 2 on my 360 box. It must have been a technical error earlier in the week.

Restored with fast forward still disabled. Noticed it was back and I hoped playback controls had been restored.

I am a new customer, just FYI. But they're giving the new router on the 500 mb and 1 Gb packages, otherwise you still get the white one.

Got the 1GB bundle "The Big Beast" or whatever it's called for €84 pm for a 12 mo contract (that's me averaging out 6mo of 56pm and 6mo of 112 pm). New box should be delivered by end of the week. Took a bit of complaining (I'd been overcharged for a few months), so might not be achievable for every negotiating customer, but just to set expectations. I see the same bundle is now on the website for new customers at 75pm, but I wouldn't expect any existing customers to be offered that, so depends if you want to go through the hassle of cancelling and opening a new a/c through your SO's name or whatever.

The separate router box has been available for a couple of years now. I declined the first offer from VM as I was happy with the Horizon Wi-Fi but accepted the second time round as I knew the next generation TV box would not have the networking function integrated.

If you're still on a Horizon box, I'd ask them for a router now and get that all set up before you upgrade from Horizon to a TV360. It will make the transition a bit easier if you do it in two steps, rather than a big bang.

Does anyone know which channel/box set/on demand category 'The Rook' is listed under in the TV360 box? I found it by searching for it by name but am puzzled as to where it's listed in the catalogue. It's a spy drama miniseries in 4K (UHD).

Wikipedia says that it's broadcast in the UK on the 'Virgin TV Ultra HD channel'. When I scroll through the various categories and box sets on my TV360 box, I can't see it listed. Just worried that I might be missing other UHD programs.

Your dead right,it is hard to find, but I had a look,if you go into on demand and hit the search icon top left, then key in The Rook you should find it.Z

Yes, I found it ('The Rook') by searching for it by name. I mentioned that in my post above. I've already watched two episodes.

My question is.... is it listed under any category so that you'd find it when browing the catalogue? Because if I hadn't seen it mentioned in this forum as one of the 4K series on VM, I'd never have known it existed.

Gotcha,my mistake, not sure really,I think they decided to bury it so no one would know they have 4k content.😀😀

Found it. Along with ‘The Feed’ (also 4K), it’s in the middle of a large catalogue of pay movies. Where you don’t expect to find a miniseries which is free to view.

Go into ‘On Demand’ and scroll down to the categories, then select ‘Drama’. The first four lines shows a collection of oldie TV dramas like The Vicar of Dibley, Only Fools & Horses etc. Below that is a collection of movies, arranged in alphabetical order by title and with a price below each one. But hiding in that collection of about 70 movies you will find ‘Feed, The’ and ‘Rook, The’.

I have a horizon box which has tonight started to make a loud humming noise.

I have three other boxes ( one out in the garage).
Can you replace the horizon box with one of the new V60 boxes and keep the current multi room boxes you have?

On the website it looks like if you get a new v360 box you have to replace your existing multiroom boxes with newer ones which work off broadband which (a) are 15 euro a month extra instead of 11 and (b) which wouldnt work in my case as the garage is out of reach for broadband.

    cheers

I'm on the Horizon box, 360mb package. €102 per month, similar price to the new 500mb package.

I had been thinking about ringing up and trying to get a discount. Now I'm thinking it'd be nice to move to the TV360 package at 500mb. Has anybody managed to do both together? I.e. upgrade and a discount? Or is that a bit much to hope for?

Anyone get any good offers (better than new customer offers) on contract renewal recently?

My cancellation request is in progress and will be cut off in a couple of days. The last thing they offered when I was cancelling was a deal that's worse than the current new customer offers.

Might just go to Sky now.

I even tried 'keep device always on' but still the box switches off when hdmi changes. I then done the same with my tv device but same!.
    Are you having this ussue?.

My contract is up for renewal soon and looking at getting the 360 box depending on what they offer

So I have the Logitech Harmony Elite and a few routines set up so only use the one remote

So how are you getting on with the box and the Elite? Dont want to get it and cannot synch with remote etc

We came to the end of our contract last year and I tried getting the 360 box out of them but they would only offer discounts on keeping the Horizon box. Ended up actually cancelling and another person signed up as a new customer. The 360 box is much better in fairness.

Of course the initial cancellation still isn't fully resolved despite me ringing them 4/5 times to confirm it since I didn't get an email from them. They are still trying to bill me and charge me fees for missing direct debit payments (I cancelled the direct debit at the suggestion of one of the VM reps I got when they realised the cancellation wasn't put through properly by them initially)

I also have a question, can you plug and play when switching over to the 360tv from a horizon box or does it have a different coax cable?
