Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd agree but should it not read 13 cases?

Or have a separate thread like they do in the weather forum when there's a storm warning.

Not really for discussion here but 2 threads will mean posters will post similar things in both, or indeed that they may miss things because they frequent one thread over another. It also lends itself to more misinformation

Someone did start another thread on travel implications but after an initial spurt that has been barely touched

Better in my view to have a single thread for all discussion plus the sticky with links to relevant resources but no discussion

The secrecy of the outbreak is worrying, the HSE need to be transparent. They need to provide more updates than that of the 9 o clock news. They need to encourage employer's, schools etc to inform them if they have closed and publish that information so it's available to the public.

After the countless scandals that have occurred in Ireland namely the Cervical smear and cover up of abuse in the Catholic Church, you would think that the HSE would know that all the public want is a transparency.

Wonder if there is any correlation with student doctors having their exams brought forward 7 weeks to what is happening in Limerick and Cork?

If all of the above is true, then it is truly shocking. They were returning from a red zone for God sake!

No they weren't. The red zone was only 4 small towns. Not the whole of Northern Italy.

But following HSE guidelines at the time..which have since been updated... eye roll...... The solicitors will have a field day with this.

Which was also NHS advice at the time and the advice of all health services and WHO. But sure let's jsut blame the HSE.

Absolute gombeeenism, supposedly the gp was telling people not to travel because of the virus.
But decides to go right into the danger zone himself with his family, and his wife's a primary school teacher.

Imagine the hypocrisy and narcissism of those people, there's no excuse none whatsoever

    Seriously WTF

The WHO is bouncing around from foot to foot shouting “governments need to take this seriously”... quite strong language from them, clearly not getting the play they want from a lot of governments. While I’d say our own efforts are clearly decent (proper contact tracing and in reality no worse off than other European countries on travel restrictions) if you were to ask and get a straight answer on, for example, whether or not Paddy’s Day was to go ahead they’d drop it into the category of “take it more seriously.”

Let's just names and addresses so and they can be lynched or whatever. What difference does the county make. Galway is still huge. Are your going to stop driving through it because of one infection.

The majority of the population is still free of the virus.
No need to create panic. Some people seem to want that.

TBH it's the government that should be stepping up. They may be in a caretaker capacity but the country needs leadership

There is no reason the 3 main parties could not come together and put in place temporary arrangements. We need to see more from the leadership of all 3 parties. Mary Lou is clearly in a very difficult position but where is/are her deputy/colleagues in all of this? They need to show they have some leadership qualities as do Leo and Michael

I'm meant to be flying to Birmingham at 6pm tomorrow, is anyone else becoming a little worried about non-essential travel at this point?

I'm young and healthy so have no worries about myself personally, but, as with many other people, I don't want to risk passing anything on to elderly-ish relatives and acquaintances.

I mean, it is Birmingham, not Barbados, so cancelling it would hardly be the end of the world.

I rescheduled my weekend to Spain

Have headache and aches and sore throat but no temperature/cough would that mean it’s definitely not the virus.

Is a temperature and cough key signs?

Exactly. And as for those demanding update earlier in the day...what actual impact will that have? None whatsoever. Italy updates daily at 5pm UK usually a once a say also AFAIK. We choose to do it at 8.30. It might satisfy a desire to feed this thread with more pointless BS but not actually achiece anything for the common good.

Leo spoke against cross party. He needs to be removed and another caretaker Taoiseach installed.

We need someone to address the nation.

    Morning !

    What have I missed ?

See we have 13 Cases now. 6 in Clare, 1 in Cork and the remainder in the East all with travel history to Italy. Is that right ?

Of the new 4 cases in the East do we know anything else ? Saw someone mention the Central Bank earlier - was that case positive ?

Saw that Italy is getting worse. Can't understand why it is so bad there.

This weekend will be interesting. There has been no panic here that anyone can observe on the streets, which is laudable. Maybe if there’s a load of cases tonight that might change. But assuming it doesn’t I’d say this weekend will see a lot of shops cleared out as people catch up to where some of the folks on this thread were being slagged off for being a while ago - going to the shop and actively preparing for a shutdown.

Sorry folks but if your told to stay home and self isolate as your were in a building that has a confirmed case what happens your family? Do they self isolate as well?

No need to create panic. Some people seem to want that.

They hardly need to give names of patients, but the town in question, the travel history, the hospital detected in/by.
All these things would help people make informed and responsible decisions about their travel. But instead we have to wait almost 24hrs after the fact until the information has come out via social media and then the papers pick it up.
    Its ridiculous.

Asking for a friend, so if they were in a building yesterday for a few minutes that has now had a case confirmed and is closed for deep cleaning what does my friend need to do, they were told not to come to work and to get tested asap this morning? Thanks

Tell them to go for a swim. The chlorine will help with the congestion. After that, some retail therapy down Grafton St to help take their mind off it.

Bohs vs Shelbourne tonight for some live sport and fresh air and then Doyles Corner to unwind over a few pints before getting the bus home.

The GP looks like he could have infected multiples of people and people that were sick..
So he worked in his own clinic for a number of days and then did a shift in A&E and also did work at an out of hours clinic so the possibility is that he could have infected hundreds and the fact his wife is a teacher who also returned to work and the kids all returned to school .

Makes sense why there is such a cover up to protect them.

The UK (so much better than us, right?) is updating only once a week, which I think is awful. Yet people here are castigating the HSE for not giving hourly updates it seems.

Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls: "Very concerned about statements by the IOC at Paris2024 (M)ultiple international treaties and national constitutions specifically refer to women & their fundamental rights, so the world (understands) what women -and men- are. (H)ow can one assess fairness and justice if we do not know who we are being fair and just to?"

Allegedly there is a high profile TD currently self isolating as their child may have come in contact with someone confirmed to have Covid19...it's kinda obvious if you are following some of the statements by this particular politician
