Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The planet is not in crisis. There are 8 billion people on earth. A minuscule number of people have been infected and an even more minuscule amount have died. The vast majority, by a wide margin, of people who get this will be absolutely fine. It's not the walking dead. Get some perspective.

I'm afraid the planet is in an enormous crisis, pal.

You should probably go check the news

At this stage, its gone native anyhow, the parade isn't going to affect that, maybe speed up the inevitable? Honestly think its not worth the business impact to cancel it now given that.

Just heard that a local nursing home here in Dublin is restricting visiting.

    They all are. See https://nhi.ie/covid-19-coronavirus-nursing-home-care/

Cork City and youghal have cancelled their parades.
I think the rest of the city/counties should each come out and do the same.
    Who's in charge of Dublin?
Would it be the mayors or city/ county boards?

I would imagine the same is going to be applied to hospital visitors now too

Maybe Cork is the real capital as they seem to be making decisions quicker ☺

That's the reason to postpone, so you don't risk overwhelming the health system.

That doesn't mean there is Coronavirus there though. Given it's a nursing home the people in it are high risk so obviously the management don't want it getting in there to cause an issue.

That's pretty much how supply chains work. If people stayed calm the factories and supply chains would keep up for the most part.

Mass panic and stockpiling will empty shops and increase panic as shelves empty leaving many without essential items.

That's why I get annoyed by people promoting ott fear and panic buying.

If 25% of people bought a month+ supply of certain items those items would go out of stock for the other 75% of people unless there were stockpiles of those items which themselves will run out eventually.

Couldn't agree more. Although going to tesco in midst of a viral outbreak where some infected person touched your cornflakes. You wouldn't be long in running out of disinfectant or catching it.

Italy have way more cases than being reported.

They have literally infected every country in Europe & beyond

Wait so that's 778 cases and 49 new deaths ? Jesus you'd be less likely to get sick standing in the exclusion zone at Chernobyl.

Yeah so should you. Most people recover from this just fine. It's not the end of the human race.

This thread gets more ridiculous by the day.

I can understand the arguments for doing it, but several experts have disagreed with the scientists proposing it and said the psychological effects on the nation could well outweigh any positives.

I really don’t like when people compare our health system to the third world as it really undermines how awful the condition in developing countries actually are. It shouldn’t be in the state it is but by no means is it third world

Can't find any verification Cork has cancelled parade. Youghal and Cobh, yes. But not Cork itself.

I work with public and loads of people coming in and out today coughing and spluttering.

You'd think they'd at least make an attempt to cover it, some people are disgusting and always will be.

I (like at lot of people at the the moment) am so aware of this and basic self hygiene seems to be completely amiss with some folk.

Stop fear mongering / doing maths / reading stuff.

That's what I'm hearing mostly on this thread.

    Now repeat after me.

    It's just the Flu.
People die all the time, get over it.
80 % of people will be grand and there'll be no lasting damage.

    It can't be spread easily.

Unilateral action and in defiance of the govt / medical experts might actually be a very bad thing.

What happens if a few secondary schools unilaterally decide to close? Would seem extremely unfair on their students.
