Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

WHO says that as yet there is no evidence to believe COVID 19 will dissipate in the summer time, though the idea has also not been dismissed either.

There was an epidemiologist on Channel 4 just now. He said this will probably become endemic worldwide which means it will be perpetual like the flu. He also said that, because of its lethality and its high transmission rate, this is the worst virus since the Spanish Flu. He also said that a vaccine won't be available anytime this year. Worth listening to the interview but pessimistic stuff.

I don't think so, according to that article he's condemning any action whatsoever. It's business as usual. He's probably very annoyed with Cork for naming CUH. I know one Cork school (very close to the hospital) whose teachers sent many books home in bags this weekend, telling parents at the gates this afternoon that they would potentially be looking into making provisions for having work emailed next week.

Will there be proper announcement at 8.30 - 45 of the cases confirmed today.
    Define proper;)

So.... anyone else notice the weird amount of porn with the ladies wearing surgical masks the last week on the major sites?

.... A friend told me he saw it of course.

    Has to be lies.

Better go do some investigate research and report back.

So there's a 50% chance Summer will stop it and a 50% chance it won't - thank god the pro's are in charge

But the article doesn't say there will be an announcement about school closures! Read it!

You’ve literally written the words ‘widespread school and university closers’ and linked to an article that doesn’t say anything as such.....what gives?

University and colleague's I can see been closed sooner than regional schools due to the numbers attending.
I agree about the article doesn't imply that

Yeah and the fact that we have a lot more people on the planet now plus the fact we travel a lot more than we did then can’t be good for the long term outlook...

God what are we all going to do when this blows over in a few weeks, and there will be no need for the covid thread... Well those of us still alive anyway...

Tbh I rather pessimistic than whitewashing what we already know.

Toilet roll completely gone in my local Aldi this evening , people going around will trolleys overflowing , absolute silly carry-on. The scaremongering in the media is pathetic.

They should ban all mass gatherings and limit flights in and out for a bit.

Yeh I dont get how it is hard to find out. Like couldnt they just do some studies under a microscope to see how the virus survives on different surfaces in different temperatures? Like if it dies at 20C or whatever most flu does, then obviously we will have much fewer cases in summer as people at least wont be picking the virus up off surfaces

Another poster posted misinformation about schools closing, I posted the text to an article about misinformation as an example of the type of misinformation being posted on this site.

Every country in Europe has the virus already. Are you comfortable with French/German/Spanish/Switz people flying in? Should we stop everyone from flying in? Who decides what countries are safe?

IDK that other poster (retro electtic) who came up with it. They're the one with the genius brain. Ask them.

    There's about a 200% chance an Irish summer won't.

Is it not in Dubai and Australia? Is that not indication enough to show it won’t be halted for summer. I am not a dr/scientist though so would love to know there is a chance it would stop it.

Does anyone have the link map that shows the time line of it spreading ? There are infected areas that show in pink, red and then black depending on how infected areas are. It shows a time line by days. It’s not the John Hopkins dashboard. It’s a different map and was used in this thread but not going back to find it

I heard the fool Ivan Yates on Newstalk this evening positing a number of 28 thousand. What an irresponsible thing to say on public radio.
That type of false trope is unconscionable.
