Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another poster posted misinformation about schools closing, I posted the text to an article about misinformation as an example of the type of misinformation being posted on this site.

If you are going to debunk someone else's info, try not to do it as a cryptic crossword clue.

The best way to fight misinformation is clarity, not click and guess.

When you think about it, it would have made much more sense to have a centralized Facility(s) to treat all
    cases and Suspect cases.

When you think about it, the transport requirements make this a daft idea. you would have ambulances and staff out of commission, use up precious protection gear and ambulances would then have to be deep cleaned after each trip or dedicated to the task, not cleaned and thus be made unavailable for actual emergencies.

Yeah and the fact that we have a lot more people on the planet now plus the fact we travel a lot more than we did then can’t be good for the long term outlook...

No indeed. On the upside, healthcare and communication is far superior nowadays and we'll have a vaccine...soon... However, poor countries with large populations will ensure the virus lives on.

47 more people died in Italy today from COVID19. Thats big. Quells any fake news that its not that serious.

What ever is happening in Italy you can be sure we will have the same fate or worse

quote="Mortelaro;112746797"]One of them owns a very busy and prominent barbers shop in the town
That would be a lot of self isolation cases [/quote]

Think you are incorrect and if you are, you shouldn't have posted this as it is unfair to the business

So you think an a&e nurse should be considered more knowledgeable than a who scientist. I’ve stopped watching his videos as he admits he gets things wrong and shouts into the camera at us. If that’s your preferred source of information then you are welcome to it.

Yeh I dont get how it is hard to find out. Like couldnt they just do some studies under a microscope to see how the virus survives on different surfaces in different temperatures? Like if it dies at 20C or whatever most flu does, then obviously we will have much fewer cases in summer as people at least wont be picking the virus up off surfaces

Exactly. They already KNOW. From experiments, from Singapore.. But can't say that would take away hope and crash economies... So they hedge their bets.

But what they are really saying is summer won't make any difference .. But we hope we are wrong..

Stop misinforming people. Yes there are more cured at this stage then there are in intensive care. However there are approx 2K in hospital now. In Lombardia there are 244 people in intensive care right now. There are 364 recovering at home.

That's 2K in hospital 364 at home. Wonder how many are mild.

We can all use percentages / comparisons to make something sound different.
    Here's a good one.

Of the 1777 people who have the disease currently in Lombary 79% are in hospital

Don't take my word for it. Get out the all calculator.

Yeah lol that sounded a bit extreme alright, you know what I mean though.

Given that the vast majority of cases are “capable of treating at home”(news) then isolation facilities away from our hospitals where our most vulnerable people are would make sense in my mind.

    That's 80% in hospital. Numbers , numbers , numbers.

Yeah but in the vast majority of cases a car or jeep could be used. Also it’s not like they need the best specialists for every single case. So staff could be kept onsite or close by thus reducing the amount of staff potentially exposed. Another thing, I said facility(s) indicating more than one. Our hospitals are already screwed with overcrowding.

I don’t think it’s daft at all to be honest. Seems to be the route China went in the end and seems to be contributing to reducing the numbers infected.

Fair enough. This is such a fast moving thread it’s easy for points like the one you were making to get lost easily.

Does anyone have the link map that shows the time line of it spreading ? There are infected areas that show in pink, red and then black depending on how infected areas are. It shows a time line by days. It’s not the John Hopkins dashboard. It’s a different map and was used in this thread but not going back to find it

There's a chance this will become endemic and circulate regularly around the world like seasonal flu or common cold.

UK pandemic plan worst case reasonable scenerio 300,000 dead at 2% fatality rate. But publicly at least, they think the rate more likely to be 1% or less.

Is this a lame boards bet or can we get some odds off Paddy Power? Not like them to miss an opportunity.
