    Source?

Even the doomsday scenario is 40% to 70% infection rate.

that's not the doomsday scenario, that's the WHO

    Yep, Wuhan like numbers :(

Professional Colleges ( GPs, Psychiatrists etc ) and the IMC are starting to communicate to members they don't need to attend conferences for Continuing Professional Development points ( a sensible precaution because 500 Hospital Consultants or GPs in a couple of rooms getting infected over the course of a couple of days would crash the health service completely... and several of those conferences have that potential ).

The subtext of the communications is also that if you don't complete your CPD because you're busy dealing with this there will be forebearance - again, sensible.

So, ANY administrative issues like CPD, registration etc can be overcome if there's a will - and that will will develop. Professional bodies are ahead of the government with this one and recognise what's important - maximising medical staff numbers and redundancy in the system on the front lines.

You’re describing the situation for current practitioners. The issue for retired professionals who have let registration lapse or not kept up with CPD is more complex. The issue of liability will arise and the State Claims Agency will have a view. Factor in the perverse pride of Finance with the subsumed DPER in denying the extra funds arising and we have more issues.

The real issue is willingness. Who would put themselves in the line of fire so to speak for the HSE and the govt?

I have asked for a WHO source on this before and nobody has provided it. I got it from Harvard professor Marc Lipsitch, not the WHO.

EU needs to club together and offer total economic and general assistance to Italy both to help the Italians and Europe as a whole. They need economic breathing space to take drastic measures now. Wtf is the point of the EU if it can't get its finger out in emergencies? Argh!

With Wuhan like numbers you need Wuhan like policies to contain it.

That means nobody leaving their houses for two weeks. Not a single soul, for anything.

Originally China allowed people to go shopping once every few days, but they later decided that that wasn't making containment effective enough. China has used all of its authoritarianism and military might to ensure that these conditions could not be broken by the public.

Distribution of laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the EU/EEA and the UK, as of 7 March 2020

Unfortunately the daily numbers of cases in Europe show a further increase.

The beginning of the bell shaped curve.

    :-(

It really is and it's the death number that's most worrying.

I don't see any nation feeling too generous right now.

Who could possibly have the capacity?

After being in Jervis an hour ago and with a heightened sense of awareness, I can only surmise that people are filthy animals and either oblivious to whole thing or do not give a **** about taking precautions to protect themselves and others.

One fella sneezed into the open twice as he crossed my path and did not break stride while doing so.

In hindsight I should have called him out. Whoever you are, you're a pig.

If everyone here who's taking this seriously, does this - calling carelessness out in public the better.
