One more case of coronavirus is confirmed in east of country, bringing the total to 19.

And again associated with travel to N. Italy.

    It isn't.

How so? Take into consideration that the children's hospital was an infrastructure fiasco rather than a healthcare one.

98 new cases so far today in Spain and 5 new deaths also today

That death rate indicates that they have about 500 cases but haven’t been testing them

So you believe we only have 18 cases and the HSE are doing literally everything they can to limit its spread?

It very likely we have more cases but as of now we have only 18 confirmed cases and yes I believe the HSE are doing what they need to do to limit the spread as much as is practical with the cooperation of the public to not present to your GP if you believe you may have the virus and to not visit people in hospitals that have restrictions on visitors.

I usually quote a pertinent part of the article but there's very little information in it.

Be careful in Rome, you can't rule out transmission through your stigmata.

A few splashes of the holy water and a hail mary from Il Papa will put you right.

Yeah one they held back from reporting on yesterday so it looks like they’re working over the weekend......

Ok, how is that the case? What is that nonsense based on? There's absolutely no gain for the HSE is holding back numbers, as they have clearly stated they expect many more cases.

You know the way the HSE is underfunded and doesn't perform as well as people hope it would. That's because ye have voted in successive governments who prioritises tax cuts over a national health service. Realistically, there should be a 2-4% increase across the board. Then we would actually have a great health service.but you know, selfishness of the Irish public in general.

At least they are paying you handsomely to advise on boards. There's always an upside..

Can we stop posting in bold.

It's very confusing for people who have been here a long time.

One is good news. Monday evening update will be interesting: realistically it will be end of the month before there’s a definite picture with returnees from Cheltenham and visiting Italians Etc.

We should be aggressively testing everyone like in Korea

South Korea are performing their tests at 79 designated health centers, in addition to authorized private hospitals and public health labs across the country.

They have a vast capacity for testing. We do not.

They have plenty of people that were in contact with confirmed cases they need to test, prioritising those people is the right thing to do. Testing someone that most likely has a cold isn't a good use of resources.

But said person lives with their grandmother. I would take that into account and categorise them as higher risk and therefore prioritise that.

Not testing them based on narrow criteria of symptoms only and saying it sounds like a cold is silly when they are living with an elderly person.

    How so?

They are very well funded by any international standard, but the Irish public are not gedrrung value for money. Too much waste in the HSE and too many admin fat cats who get paid too much for doing too little. Unionised to the teeth also, change is impossible, and so the waste and underperformance grows each year, rising costs and needing more money. We pay too much for the ****e and not enough for the hard working frontline staff.

1 is alot better than expected.
Let's see where we're at in another few days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,238 ✭✭✭✭Hurrache

    How so?

Because it isn't. It's mismanaged, top heavy with management since its formation, and the unions are firmly eating from that trough, you'd be lucky to change the brand of a needle used without the unions looking for money as compensation, and there's massive resistance to change.

I honestly find 1 new case hard to believe given we have put no travel restrictions or containment measures in place and the numbers on the continent continue to mushroom...It just seems unlikely for our numbers to be dropping

How long do results take from the time you're tested, out of interest?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,525 ✭✭✭SeaBreezes

Imagine the county council trying to organize something like this is a few weeks time.

We'd have more green wellies for a start. :-)

I really don't understand that living with your grandmother means you are higher risk of obtaining Covid-19. What's your rationale?

Rather unfortunate choice of picture by RTE! Is that Tallaght?

As for the second part of your post the rationale for NOT testing people is they don't mean the ECDC or HPSC case definitions. They are deemed to be very low risk. The purpose of self-isolation advice is an ADDITIONAL control measure in the event the patients condition worsens (thus meeting testing criteria) and stop them spreading it in the community.

You are not addressing the question. Telling someone to skip work/college and not meet anyone for two weeks is extreme and something you would usually very rarely come across. You don’t do this if you don’t at least think there is a decent chance the person might be infected. And if you think there is a decent chance you should test them.

It might be that this person didn’t need to be tested (and I am not arguing one way or the other as we don’t know), but in that case they didn’t need to isolate for 2 weeks either (what I am questioning is that contradiction).
