What's our highest total so far, 7?

So we are down two days in a row. Bucks the trend of pretty much all other countries on recorded cases.

Is this the same government who will bang on about mandatory vaccines FOR THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE yet don't see any problem in letting people fly to and back to a state of emergency zone in italy FOR THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE

Seems to be sweeping towards us in a wave.

UK figures seem low for the level of population though. Are they doing something right or is it all Boris BS?

Watch out Aran and other inhabited offshore islands, the trend is West from Northern Italy.

Just reading the Italian lockdown so with Lombardy now a lockdown red zone along with Venice
That means flights should stop straight away to Milan and Venice.

Not 'lockdown' in the full sense. Many places being told to close but the Govt are merely recommending that people stay in their own regions. There are no curfews or people being prevented leaving the country.

There's a fair bit of practical information on the HSE website about self isolation.
But you hardly need the HSE to tell you about taking painkillers if you have pain or keeping hydrated etc.

    Just apply general common sense.

    https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/self-isolation-and-limited-social-interaction.html

As crazy as it sounds, I'm going to prepare for the chance of self isolation in my room. I have a TV at least. I might pick up a kettle and have my own separate cutlery, plate, bowl, mug, food, it can be done. Try avoid using the kitchen that other people might have coughed and sneezed in. Just have to share a bathroom.

Dammed if you do dammed if you don't. Patient presents with respiratory illness. Not isolated and put in general ward youre an idiot.

    Isolate and youre an idiot.

Also an at risk group with the asthma comorbidity.

Also worth tacking on here that we don't know the full clinical presentation of this patient bar what they've told us and from what I gather in that aforementioned Reddit thread that young man did not meet HPSC OR WHO clinical management protocols or definitions for cohort isolation.

Talking to my architect this morning. He's going to Northern Italy in 3 weeks with family. Said if you calculate population of Italy by cases or Corona, and do same with Ireland, you're as safe in Italy as here. He's not cancelling trip, and he's a clever guy so I dunno what to think.

You don't need to be an architect to blow a hole in those maths.
They would equate to Italy having 200 cases to match our per capita.

Sounds like he'd justify anything if he'd paid money for it.

Like most architects in Ireland he's very smart but still an idiot.

This was always predictable....UK and Ireland less at risk because of geography.

It's strong discouragement, but you can still enter and exit the regions for work and family reasons.

I've heard that in the quarantined regions there were lots of people out and about mixing and enjoying the free time. The hardest thing for the government is to get people to take this seriously.

If you had an opportunity to move to another country for a year, (say for example Canada) would you do it?
Really depends on exact location, if the Flu gets as bad as expected you can exclude their 4/5 main cities. If you don't mind bears, and can fell logs to lash up an aul cabin, smoke fish, and chop up Moose, perhaps.

If you can get Can res status, can sometimes buy a couple of acres for next to nothing out in the sticks, and live off-grid. No Netfilx n' chill or McDs (a good thing).

I wish tv, newspapers etc would stop including NI in the Republics figures - when they report the UK numbers they don't subtract the NI figures

It's just confusing people wondering where all the other cases have suddenly come from

There are only 19 confirmed cases in the South

It's clickbaity scaremongering at the best

Very true, if you start messing with borders it all gets quite confusing, specially if you include NI cases (with Ireland) and don't subtract the NI cases from the UK total.

    Therefore to date ....

    United Kingdom has 206 cases.
Ireland has 19 Covid cases (that we know of)!

    Tomorrow is another day.

Is the ground glass pattern unique to coronavirus or would other infections also show that patten?

    Lots of other diseases https://radiopaedia.org/articles/ground-glass-opacification-3

Using AI to try and identify a sub pattern of coronavirus is interesting concept but it's miles away from mainstream.

Not trying to be difficult, CT is absolutely useful but not necessarily in diagnosis routinely.

Don't be blondly loyal to FG all your life. They cancelled St. Patrick's day and all major sporting events and we had only one case of Foot and Mouth in Ireland. We could isolate one patient without the need to shoot them.

Yes people are focused on Italy because it is the original European hotspot, but France is just maybe a week behind (and Germany is probably 1-3 days behind France).

Most of what could have been said about Italy last week now starts applying to France.

    Yes.
The first French victim - from Crépy-en-Valois (with no links to neither China nor Italy) started developing symptoms on 13 February.
However he was diagnosed on the 25 February.

Hence the approx 1 week delay in testing in France.

42062 testings to date in Italy (5700 today)

Number of tests in France is lower (this file shows 893 tests on 5 March)
    Point épidémiologique du 06/03/2020, 15h

    Social distancing is obviously euphemistic.

Most of the 'lockdowns' begin with somewhat lax restrictions. In the early days in Wuhan people were free to leave their houses, but asked to stay inside iirc. Then it was, you can leave your house for an hour. To one person can leave to go to the shop. To some places ending up where everything is delivered to you.

It's naive to think that countries with out of control crises won't try the thing that appears to control spread.
