The majority of cases in Florida appear to be the result of retirees taking foreign trips. A cruise on the Nile River in February accounted for 5 of the cases, including 1 death. 5 more cases are from a group that returned from a trip to China. There is no evidence yet that the virus is spreading within the local population.

Ah, just like Ireland the disease cant spread locally.

Finished watching a few videos on YouTube, husbands and wifes on the diamond princess, only one of them positive. Surely you would expect both to be positive but nope only one.

So I don't understand how one is and isn't.

I guess some couples maintain 2 meters distance from each other and aren’t around their spouses for more then 15 minutes at a a time :pac:

They want death deaths and more death so that they can say "I told you so"

I don't know about whatever post you were referring to. But talk about hysterical nonesense in your own post.

That's not what it says, it also gives no source to the numbers.
Before each number it says 'at least', so when it says that of 197 deaths, at least 49 were aged 62 - 95, my reading of that is that we don't know what age the remainder were.

Also, people mentioning the death rate in Italy v South Korea should bear in mind the differences in demographics in the two countries and that in South Korea, the presumed main source was a meeting of a religious group populated by mainly young people, whereas in Italy, unnoticed community transmission for several weeks led to people being hospitalised with the virus, but not isolated, which led to cases in hospitals where those infected already had underlying conditions. Imo Italy has been extremely unlucky with this.
The Korean testing rates may also be a factor, but the mortality rate isn't as important as the absolute number in terms of deaths.

Italian death rate is high because they are not testing.
South Korea is testing and diagnosing and therefore has a much lower death rate which is likely to be the actual death rate we will see in Ireland (0.6%).

On the Diamond Princess ship for example they had 696 confirmed cases because they tested everyone. However they only had 6 deaths or 0.86%. People on Cruise Ships are generally older and more likely to be in an at risk group so again this indicates the overall death rate will be far lower than Italy is experiencing.

Yes. I have owned a string of Fiats and then bought a Honda. Going from Fiat quality to Honda quality and reliability, I will never go back.

The heat arguement isnt that it stops the virus. It's that the virus doesn't live as long on surfaces as it would during the winter therefore reducing the spread.

There has been a seventh death so the rate is now 1%

    Ireland 4 cases per million...

    19 confirmed cases in Ireland.

Just a note on how serious other places are taking it. In Macau they closed the casino for around a week, imagine that, billions of revenue they sacrificed for the common good, they just had 10 cases!

Phone them. Constantly, call their offices. Emails will simply be ignored and given what we're dealing with protests seem to be very counter productive so the government has that to hide behind. Literally anything else and people mobilising on the streets would put pressure on them but clearly not a good idea in this case.

If you're worries about the direction we're heading call your TDs, all of them, regardless of vote and do it regularly.

Good luck with that. The geniuses in the PBP brigade thought it was a great idea to organise a protest march in Dublin city centre yesterday against FF/FG. This is the mentality of some of what you`re dealing with.

Yeah Macau is a bit of a crazy place where casino amont for 40% of GDP! I don’t think any of us can even comprehend what the equivalent would be here in term of impacts.

Can they make a cheap mass produced, disposable test kit ? Sell them for a euro or two. Available from the chemist. Then everyone could test themselves at the slightest cough and would stop the spread, as you wouldn't be walking around undiagnosed.

And how many are FG planning to march in Dublin on Paddy's Day?

Looking at Europe as a whole but excluding Italy. Based on WHO report from yesterday there have been 2856 cases confirmed with 17 deaths or again 0.6% like the South Koreans experienced.
