I was waiting for an appointment at a surgery not very long ago, but before this was on the radar, and thought that it might be an idea if people sat in their cars outside, rather than the waiting room, and that the receptionist could just ring their phone and ring off (zero cost), to signal they should come inside.

I'm meant to be flying to Birmingham at 6pm tomorrow, is anyone else becoming a little worried about non-essential travel at this point?

I'm young and healthy so have no worries about myself personally, but, as with many other people, I don't want to risk passing anything on to elderly-ish relatives and acquaintances.

I mean, it is Birmingham, not Barbados, so cancelling it would hardly be the end of the world.

The risks of either catching it or passing it on to anyone in the UK or Ireland at the moment are still absolutely tiny. We're talking about 200 cases out of a combined population of 70m.

I agree that the chances are small but the number of actual cases is likely to be much higher than 200. There is very limited testing taking place.

No, we're talking about 200 confirmed cases. There is virtually no testing. Planeloads of people are flying in every single day from areas with thousands of cases, and mingling with the general public. I was just in London and it's extremely noticeable how many people are coughing, sneezing, sniffling....no way they are all just 'normal colds and flu'.

The only people who are being tested are those who 1) have symptoms and 2) have been in a high risk area. That's it. Someone with symptoms who hasn't travelled will not be tested, even though they could be sitting on the tube for 20 minutes between someone from Wuhan and someone from Milan both coughing up lungs all over them.

There is virtually no chance that there aren't loads of undiagnosed cases of coronavirus in the UK, with most of those people thinking it's just a cold or flu.

I shudder to think how much extra administration they're having to do because of oversight and bureaucracy at a time where all their resources should be focused on infection control and prevention. I know several people working there tonight, I don't want to text or call because they're probably inundated with people texting to know their business and they're likely completely focused on work. I can't even imagine what that entails, it must be like walking on hot coals, they are so incredibly brave.

One of today's confirmed cases is from Trinity College, I know a student there, she told me.
The family in Clare where the guy is a GP got themselves tested and it came up negative. Which goes to show a person can be infected for a while without it showing up. ( I know a guy who has the doctor in question as his GP).
Just throwing that info out there. I'm trying to give up thinking about the whole shít show for the night
