    Hey folks,

I have recently purchased a second car as our family is expanding.

I've held a policy for 6 years with 25plus.ie and have a full no claims discount with this.

I've tried to get insurance for my new car but they won't offer me a policy as I don't have a no claims bonus on this car.

What are you meant to do in this case? How do folks get a second insurance policy?

    Thanks

So you can get an insurance, what you can't get is NCB to go with that insurance, right? Or they won't quote you at all?
I was in the same boat as yourself some years ago, and I did just that, I payed the full price until I built a new NCB for the second car.
You can shop around maybe if you switch to a different insurer they can give you something, but full NCB for both from the start probably is not achievable.

Do you have a no claims bonus as a Named driver on another car? A few years ago I bought a second car and couldn’t use my no claims bonus from my existing insurance but 123.ie insured me and gave me credit for the years I’d been I’d been a named driver on my husbands insurance.

A number of places won't quote as I'm 33 and too old!

Just need to suck it up and pay 1500 or so - its mental what they can get away with. Such an archaic industry!!

Unfortunately not, my wife has just learnt to drive so we only had 1 policy in my name!

In fairness, your NCB will be not relevant if your wife is the main driver, especially given that she'd just got her license.
And what's that about being 33 and being too old?

Does your house insurer offer motor insurance?

Axa and Aviva offer discount on motor policies if you have your house insured with them.

so: you've had insurance in your own name for 6 years, and now having bought a 2nd car which you want to insure, you want to cover it, yes ?

So, what's happening to the 1st car, and your wife's driving of it ?

Why not you insure the 2nd car, and take your NCB with you - but it's your wife needs to get insurance for your (1st) car. Then you have 1 policy each.

It doesn't make any sense to me to have you as 'main driver' on two policies, and she as 'named' on the same two.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
