Try Athlone Co Roscommon. Small strips of land north of the town actually in Roscommon.

It's funny as even though Parteen is in Clare it's addressed as Limerick by the Esb!

Had the pleasure of watching some dimwit zoom up the 30-strong queue and cut in. Security guard made them do a u-turn of shame and leave. If security wasnt there I'd bet the guards would have to shut it down.

Busiest I've seen Castletroy all lockdown and it's all because of McDonalds. Cars driving in, seeing the queue and leaving again.

The psychology of the whole thing is amazing and how scarcity hugely increases the perceived value and demand for something.

Was saying to my wife and parents that it would be a good rule of thumb to avoid any business for a week or two if possible after they reopen until things die down a bit. Couldn't be bothered queuing for Donald's but each to their own.

I could do with getting some kids clothes in Penneys, but there's no way in hell that I'll queue. Guaranteed, people will be there from at least 7am. It will be like the Next sale.

If the queues at the Chicken Hut are anything to go by, you should be safe enough after a week or so. The initial craziness should start waning outside McDonald's by the middle of next week too.

Supermacs drive thru was a good example of that. It's much quieter these days on the Ballysimon road anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is people queuing outside Pennies already. You'd want a serious few screws loose to go near that place for at least a week or 2! I could do with a few cheap sets of bed linens but I'd sooner weave the cotton at home :pac::pac::pac:

Noticed that UL are advertising their new Hospital is open in the running track building/courts. Seems to me a little too late mind you but hey ho they're announcing it's open for business. It's on their Linkedin page.

According to RTÉ it's for "patients who are ready to be discharged from the acute hospitals in the UL hospital's group, but who need extra recovery or rehabilitation time before going home or being transferred to a nursing home."

Something that should have been in place before Covid 19 was ever a thing (although not in the UL Arena). It shouldn't have needed a worldwide pandemic for the HSE to finally put something like this in place in Limerick.

City centre fairly busy earlier today. Plenty of people in masks, queues outside most open shops.

Great to see business getting customers again, but social distancing outside of the queues seems to have been completely forgotten.

Even in the UK field hospitals have been wound down and there is ICU capacity in Public hospitals. Sounds like 'Built it, now they better use' decision.

They'll use it when the hospital, which outside of Covid doesn't have enough beds to deal with the requirements of the population, goes back up to normal capacity. It's a damning indictment of either the management of the hospital, or government funding for it, or maybe both. IMHO of course

No, it's not because of this they were 'laid off'. The arena was going to remain closed for the coming academic semester in a decision made by the executive committee, in an effort to prevent clusters occurring on campus and in the interest of public health. They are utilising the space as a collapsible healthcare unit.

It's not really a "field hospital" like some of the NHS units that popped up. It's for people don't require specialist level care but still have ongoing health needs. This is an effort to prevent transmission of COVID in this cohort of patients who would normally remain in the hospital when there isn't a risk of transmitting such a virus.

I don't see why people are such negative nancies about something that is a fantastic health resource for the region, for the time being. It would be a closed off space either way.

Yes they have been in place in a good few places around limerick when the lock down started, it was not advertised or posted up on social media so as not to incite panic.
My future wifey (wedding cancelled due to civic 19) was involved with fitting out some of these units.

So they had overflow wards setup away from the hospital for recovering patients?

Just got a courtesy call from the East Room, UL... they are reopening on the 3rd of July.

Called herself and she gave it a thumbs up. Tried to ring back and book a table for the 3rd, but both lines busy. Have emailed instead.

Great news that some normality is returning for UL campusðŸ‘
Hopefully some the sports clubs, elite athletes etc from the mid West will be back soon too.
