As much as a gym is the last place I'd want to visit during lockdown, exercise is crucial for many peoples mental health and a quick walk around the block isnt enough for some to feel the benefits. To be honest I'd be in a much worse place mentally had we not invested in a machine for our house as its not easy to fit a walk long enough into my day to feel the benefits.

I see some gyms in Limerick are operating on a booking only system, but any gym allowing too many people too close together should be shut down.

With you on that. Walking isn't for me and if not I will spontaneously combust.
I don't know the numbers here, but in the UK it was 70 cases out of 22million gym visits since they re-opened there. And I "think" the UK is more lax than us here.
Slots are tight in the gym and every machine is wiped down.

I had to kill some time yesterday out near Coonagh, so I parked in a car park by a Gym out there. It has glass windows all around it so you can see in. I was completely shocked at the amount of people inside, all young lads - it'd had to have been over 15 people, all working out, some wiped the equipment before/after using, some didn't. Some people arriving in, didn't use hand sanitiser No masks at all, no windows open as they are floor to ceiling glass. No two metres between equipment. ? We're not allowed visitors into our home or garden, we have to wear masks in shops, and here are gyms, a free for all.

    STALKER!

No, if you read my post properly I just happened to observe the gym when passing some time. A stalker is someone who obsessively watches someone, this was a once off. I merely made an observation. Anyhow from the replies of other posters, most gyms are adhering to good practices which is great to hear, for however long that may last.

If you ever stepped inside a gym you might discover that people are there to improve their health and that Gyms are infact a tool which potentially might help a person fight the covid 19 virus or any other virus for that matter!
Gyms should be one of the last things to be shut in a lockdown!
I mean they will let fast food outlets operate in lockdown go figure?
Obesity, high blood pressure, hypertension etc etc have been shown to be not your best friend if you contract Covid !

You can exercise outdoors during a pandemic if you want to exercise. They are most certainly not essential.

Given the heavy breathing that goes on in most gyms, they should be among the first to close.

I thought people were there to ingest steroids and get ripped.

    Nonsense,
I excercise outdoors all the time and still train in the gym 4 days a week.
The precautions that are being taken by the gym and the members make it a hell of a lot safer than going to the shops or the pub.
As I said earlier 3 months reopened and not 1 case of infection.

If the gym is not your thing that's fine but dont come on here pontificating about something you obviously know nothing about

just wondering how the Crescent Shopping Centre is doing currently. The city appears busy today. Possibly the open air plus possibility of another lockdown.

Crescent is busy enough. Queues for checkouts at Tesco hardware, to get in to Pennies, etc. But all cool!

Crescent is a disgrace, lots of people walking around without a mask and some not wearing them properly.

Why the security staff don't say anything is beyond me

It has nothing to do with the security staff though.

I'm guessing they've not been told to police it.

I bet all of those people have health condition preventing them from wearing masks.

Frome hat I can see there are an awful lot of people in Limerick with these problems we must be the unhealthiest city in Europe if so

They're not the Gardai, it's not their job to police mask wearing.

Regularly see them asking people to put on their mask. Doing a good job in difficult circumstances with some of what they get in return.

A Doctor from UL hospital group was on the radio today or yesterday, saying that those plastic visors are completely ineffective.

    https://www.live95fm.ie/news/live95-news/limerick-doctor-warns-visors-do-not-protect-against-covid-19/

    Worth a listen.

That's exactly the point I was making. Their employer may not want the hassle. I see that they do ask people to wear masks, which is great. I know I'd be loathe to shop anywhere that allowed people to wander about without masks. These premises are private property, and the management have the right to refuse admission.

In theory you're right but I'm not going to risk my safety telling someone to mask up!

I was in town earlier and some guy in a tracksuit turned up outside a cafe and started roaring about Jesus with no mask on in the middle of people trying to eat!

I know people that have been in various “wet bars” that are not keeping rules i.e more than 15 and all indoors.

Regulars only kinda thing. Ring ahead and sneak in.

I feel for the business who are just trying to make a living. Feel for the punters who are just tired of not being able to socialise like they have for the last 20-40 years. Feel for the general public hearing about this kind of thing and blaming these people for the higher numbers.

It’s starting to feel like c19 is only getting started.

see there is now a case in St Munchins school. But "no close contacts" In a school class? None? How can that be, it makes no sense

They count back 48hrs from test. If he was tested on a Monday there would have been no school contact on Saturday and Sunday stupid I know

so it makes sense if the symptoms arose on the Monday and he didn't go in etc

My son coughed in school today, got sent home. Can't go back into school until he's been cleared. Going to be a long winter...
