On to Limerick related things: The refusal of the UHL Hospital Group to put even a ballpark number on the outbreaks in the hospital system is pretty harrowing. Student nurses and medical students were sent home from each site effective immediately yesterday evening...

    161 staff currently out.

Where, if you can say, did you get that number from?

We are second only to Donegal, with higher rate than Dublin.
Is this all in the Regional or what's the story? Do we have any details?

Outside seating if well spaced would be ok but as ever in Ireland they didnt follow that,Little Catherine Street coffee places made no effort

This doesn't surprise me, the regional used to close to visitors 2-3 times a year because of outbreaks... They can barely handle a chicken pox outbreak never mind this

Heard that the cases being attributed to NCW are actually in Glin
The cases being linked to listowel are actually in Tarbert. It's done on DED Area so it's called NCW and Listowel.. Glin and Tarbert are beside each other so chances are these are linked. School in Tarbert and Glin closed

Are our numbers artificially large due to Hospital cases amongst staff and patients?
Its hard to make sense of this

I didn't watch the briefing but read in the COVID thread that they seemed to mention in passing that the UHL outbreak has lead to community transmission cases in Limerick. :(

    Cases bad in Hospital?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

They have finally started to swab staff who do not have symptoms or are not close contacts, swabbing is starting this week so it would be likely that there are more cases in UHL later this week and earlier next week from asymptomatic staff.

Seems to be a lot of confusion in there too between departments as to what protocols and procedures to follow.

Pretty much yeah, Kieran O Donnell was on with Joe Nash this morning saying it's a cluster that we should be able to control and subsequently bring Limerick's figures down...

    High numbers again today
Examiner article blaming it on students and using obvious code, large traveller families.

If this doesn't dissipate within 2 weeks we could be left behind.

This is a mortal disgrace - how can health professionals in a sensitive setting not be ahead of the game in precautions when they know the risks ?
One wouldn't be surprised at some cases occurring but surely not on this scale
unless there are failures of management or carelessness on the part of some nurses etc.
Listening to Pat kenny this morning wouldn't give any grounds for reassurance.

It's 221 who were contacts not positive covid so I don't think the actions for individual staff are the problem and what the HSE are calling close contact is tighter than normal rules. But for the numbers to be that high you would assume there are problems with bubbles mixing in the hospital or just real bad luck where unconnected cases entered multiple wards at the same time.

There is nothing individuals can do to be more ahead of the game than any other work place and we all know the same risks

Unpalatable as it may be, this DOES represent an increased risk for people in West Limerick. It's an absolute fact that it does.
You can pretend that it doesn't all you like, but it not sensationalizing, it's not unfounded, it an absolute certainty.

I get that people don't like hearing these kinds of things, but it does not make it any less true,

Exactly. Try telling them to social distance. They caused a west limerick bar / restaurant to almost close a few months back. Refused to stay at tables , wouldn't social distance and gangs of women going to toilets together.

Its so easy for people who don't have to live with this to scoff and give out when its pointed out, and call us all sorts for highlighting it, but that doesn't make it any less valid.
It's our families and our health we are concerned about

Rubbish. I'm not coming home for Christmas, neither are any of the scores of Irish or British people I know in the country I live. Wake up to the fact they do what the f*ck they want and stick their fingers up to the rest of us whilst at it. Covid has only proved it more.:mad::mad:
Come back and virtue single when you've lived or worked near these people.
