What do they actually do at these "car meetups" ? Rev their engines?

The government may never have brought in fines for covid related activity, but The Guards could fine most of them for noise pollution if they wanted to. Under current legislation drivers are meant to have silencers on loud exhausts. It's barley ever enforced. I saw a guy on my road get done for it recently. I think the guards were hanging around the area because a few people complained about the same 3 or 4 boy racers making ridiculous amounts of noise every night.

Cases don't seem to have 'exploded' down here this time like last time. Hopefully we can max out at 60-70.

That’s not good news. Hopefully it won’t have done too much damage.

Cork is always low on a Sunday sadly, so expect a jump tomorrow.

I drove through the city about 8.00 pm and again on my way home about 9.00 pm. Really quiet on the Grand parade, Washington Street, South Mall area. It’s good to see no large groups gathering but sad to see the city so quiet, especially this close to Christmas.

I drove down Oliver Plunkett St around six & was crazy busy.

The sooner the street is fully pedestrianised the better so people have the full street keep a safer distance from everyone else.

It wasn't quite today. Town was packed during the day. I didn't stay long as I didn't feel safe with such huge crowds.

Today's number includes a backlog of circa 300 cases. To have 59 is actually quite good considering.

How is there a backlog, is tests still going to Germany?

    13 deaths, 970 cases
238 cases in hospital, 28 in ICU

There was 670-ish positive swabs today, 970 cases reported. No idea why.

People still think level 3 is enough?

So many were convinced it was working the last time and cases were dropping. This time we entered level 3 from an even lower base and cases are rising.

Big difference between peoples movements in October and December so hard to compare.

Yeah, I don't think too many catch covid in a retail setting to be honest. I think loads of restaurants either inadvertently or consciously weren't at the races with the guidelines. Too many folk on the premises and groups of over 6 being accommodated also.
People indoors, without masks in restaurants etc was a higher risk and it looks to have been problematic.

For anyone who reckons Ireland was rough compared to lockdowns in Europe look at Germany now....... hard lockdown and record cases.

By March the over 70s and frontline healthworkers should be vaccinated, that will be huge all going well.
