    1374 in cork today.

I’d say yesterday’s numbers are more representative of our daily figures.

Over 8000 cases for the country. But there's 5000 positive swabs. So where did the extra 3000 cases come from when they said the backlog has been cleared?

There’s still c.5,000 left in the backlog. I really don’t understand where the confusion is coming from. He stated that the backlog that existed to 5th of January was cleared. Given the swabs v cases differential, that implied a backlog still existed. There’s nothing to suggest the c.5000 remaining have disappeared.

I heard today that in one Cork hospital that management, clerical and admin staff were getting the vaccine before nurses and doctors. The person wouldnt say which hospital but their partner is a doctor and I would trust that they wouldnt be spreading lies.

    Typical

Not the CUH anyway. They're nearly done. Fairly certain the Mercy is almost finished too, was talking to an ICU HCA there two days ago.

This would be in line with how the hse said they would deal with the backlog and yesterday's explanation is unambiguous.

If it's any comfort, my 90 year old mother was in hospital, CUH, initially, then The South Infirmary for about 8 weeks, back in April/May and didn't contract anything.

My 87 year old Mum was in the Mercy end of Sept for 6 weeks not covid related but pneumonia. Towards the end of her stay some there, not on her ward, contracted Covid. Thankfully shes home and well and covid free.

That's great to hear, how is she now?

She's at home getting on with it, now, thanks.
Trying to balance care and company with risk is difficult, though.

Spreading unfounded rumours like that doesn't benefit anyone.

Thousands of People came home to answer the call. About 200 got jobs. It was a disaster for young professions getting well paid abroad hoping for work at home but were let down by the government

Bantry has had their vaccinations postponed to next week, but no dates given. Also a thread linked in here for a similar story in Mallow where the vaccinations were suddenly postponed.

A friend of mine who's a doctor in Tralee General hospital got the jab last Tues so they've probably got all the staff there done by now.

A birthday party in Cork had to be broken up by gardaí on Thursday night at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, with more than 100 mostly maskless people not adhering to social distance guidelines ordered to disperse.

Gardaí confirmed that they arrived to a venue in Blarney around 11pm, which they described as a shed, where a “large gathering in excess of 100 people was taking place”.

Who are these absolute fecking cretins ?

There needs to be huge fines for this sort of blackguarding.
