Possible proof that hospital outbreaks are getting less frequent.
    Indeed.
However, related to that, I'm aware that there is significant issues with supply affecting vaccinations among healthcare workers in the CUH, that should be fixed next week with the AZ delivery.

MM just said on prime time from the 8th of February the next groups after the over 70’s will start getting the AZ vaccine, so it brings forward those groups but the over 70’s slow down.
I don’t see this as a major setback, if we’ve all been following this crap for the past year it’s been younger adults spreading the virus, so vaccinate them and you stop an exponential spread!

Have the tiers for the roll out been confirmed yet and the order they are going to work through them in?

Most people aged 18 to 54 won't be vaccinated in the next couple of months unfortunately though will they? They're the last set to be done before u18s iirc.

As someone of 50, I think it makes sense to vaccinate young adults before my age group as the tend to (and arguably need to) socialise and mix in society more.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I’m mid 50’s and would love to see my kids who are in their 20’s get the vaccine before me as they need to get back socialising with their friends and get back to college/work. I’d happily hold off another few months.

    Hospital Update
    National 1158 down from 1239

    CUH - 68 down from 76. 16 in ICU, increase of 1.
Mercy - 21, up from 20. 5 in ICU, no change.

On a side note, anecdotally, I've heard that the people in the hospital right now are incredibly sick, way worse than the first wave and a lot of them are likely to be in there for a considerable amount of time.

I think it attaches onto cells more easily which makes people have more symptoms.

Is there much asymptomatics now with this new transmissible variant?

Back in mid Jan it was reported in the media that the discharge of covid folk would be slow.... That was key in why lockdown was to be extended...

Nobody anticipated the exponential decline we’re seeing in hospitalisations now. Estimates by NPHET were between 800-1200 in hospital by end of February. We’re now at 1119, one week into February.

So in 3 weeks time if there's the guts of 800 people in hospital their estimate was correct as estimate is to "roughly calculate or judge the value, number, quantity, or extent of" :)

Lets hope their estimate will be way off.

I know we all fight like cats and dogs at times here and it sometimes get rather tetchy by it's awful to think of any regular poster here being unwell. I really hope you feel better soon, Liz.
