Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many vaccines could be administered daily at a hub like this ?

    2 reasons I would think:
    a) It puts 2 fingers up to Govt restrictions and guidelines. Yet you get fined for going to the beach for a walk. Whether it's right or wrong, it is clearly defying the rules.
    b) There's a line between people buying necessary items and people ordering plenty, returning items etc which is generating people out and about. This was something they wanted to stop. The argument would then get extended to "lets open Penneys" etc. It had to stop somewhere. Necessary items are still for sale physically in the shop so no one would be stuck.

Well u know what to do, go away and report it to the guards. Hopefully they will be wearing a mask when engaging with you as they seem to be above the law as far as mask wearing is concerned.

Well there's 30 booths, and you need to wait 15mins after the vaccine so say 20mins per person to administer, but there will have to be cleaning of the booths before the next person so that could be 30mins. So if we assume 3 an hour per booth, more than likely it will probably follow normal hours so 9-5. So that puts it at 720 a day.

But if they are purely using the cubicles for the post vaccine wait, then they could administer them in the millennium hall, and assign people a booth to wait after. Could get through a lot more that way.

You don't need to wear a mask outside iirc.

I think I read that the hubs will operate 8am - 8pm seven days a week. I’m just curious as to how many a doctor/ nurse can vaccinate hourly and will will each pod need to be closed for cleaning between each person etc. I would hope that with big hubs like this we should be able to make good progress.

The booths are most definitely for administering the vaccine.... Likely for the 15 minutes post vaccine also but that could be done in a communal setting.
I got it a couple of weeks ago. Jab in private, 15 mins communal (socially distant of course).

As noted earlier in this thread, there is a confirmed outbreak at a meat plant.

    https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/arid-40214033.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

This is in addition to an outbreak in Co Wexford, with 42 cases connected to it so far: https://www.rte.ie/news/regional/2021/0125/1191969-wexford-meat-plant-covid/.

A further 2 cases have been identified at the same plant in Bandon.

200 fines were issued in Cork City over the weekend for breaches of COVID-19 regulations.
    [...]

Chief Superintendent Barry McPolin was speaking after more than 200 fines were issued by gardaí in Cork city over the weekend for breaches of Covid-19 rules.

House parties were held across the city, according to Chief Superintendent McPolin, while groups of young people also gathered for bush drinking in the city and suburbs.

At the Lough, fines were issued to a group who had gathered for bush drinking.

One person was arrested at the Lough for a public order offence.

There were similar gatherings in Blackrock and Carrigaline, and the Chief Superintendent said that young people travelled from other areas to Carrigaline during the weekend for gatherings.

    [...]

The Cork chief superintendent said parents have a responsibility to know where their children are.

“There is a responsibility on parents of teenagers to know where their children are, who they are hanging around with and if they are travelling around to other parts of the city to take part in bush drinking. It is a great concern to the community.”

He pointed out that €100 fines were in place for travelling beyond 5km, while the fine for attending an indoor gathering is €150.

Organisation of a gathering can result in a €500 fine.

He said the number of fines issued during the weekend was the highest since the introduction of the on-the-spot fines a month ago for breaching guidelines.

    Don't know what to say....

Woman twice broke visitor ban at Cork Covid ward and took selfies with infectious patient
Two breaches of security occurred at an isolated Covid-19 ward in Cork's South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital during which a woman gained entry to see a relative and took selfies at the bedside.

According to sources in the hospital, the woman got on to the ward, which is designated as strictly no visitors, without being spotted by staff, and went to her relative’s bedside where she proceeded to take photographs before she was discovered.

Within two weeks, the same woman managed to get in again, this time in the company of another relative who is a child. Again she was escorted off the hospital grounds.

A spokesperson for the hospital confirmed the incidents, which happened during the worst wave of the pandemic in the last month.

“South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital can confirm that there were two minor security breaches at the hospital,” she said.

“The incidents were swiftly dealt with by hospital security and no patients or staff were impacted.

"All breaches are taken very seriously by hospital management who have reported the incidents to the appropriate authorities within the HSE. The hospital has robust safeguard measures in place to prevent unauthorised entry and limited access through one point of entry.”

The gardaí were not informed about the incident. It is unclear whether there were attempts to obtain the woman’s details in an effort to follow up for testing and tracing.

Visits to hospital, even for those in critical care, have been severely restricted since the outset of the pandemic. These restrictions have included a complete ban on visits.

The South Infirmary only permits visits in very particular circumstances including an end of life situation.

1212 in hospital on Sunday gone, 1100 in hospital last night. Should be a decent drop again today in line with the usual stable figures over the weekends.

The hospital called them "minor security breaches" - wouldn't say that!

On the vaccination rate - we're now about 4.7 vaccinations per 100 people. Still among the top handful in the EU. For some reason Ireland is reporting the vaccination data every 3-4 days whereas other nations are reporting them daily, so it's a bit harder to compare.

Isn’t that to change from Monday with Dailey updates?

Is that 4.7 the % that have received the two doses do you know?

It's just the number of individual jabs/doses. Last I read, of those that had received any vaccinations about 75% had received two shots and 25% just one.

The highest vaccination rate continues to be Israel, and they're somewhere over 60 jabs per 100, so somewhere around 30% fully vaccinated. And it's already having a big impact on the infection rate there.

Has there been any update on when over-80s will start getting called for the vaccine in Cork? Last I read it is due to start rolling out on Monday next but that may have changed since.

Those aged over 85 will be invited by their local GP in the coming weeks. People aged 70-84 should begin to receive their first dose after March 8th,

Yeah, that is the announced plan alright but is there any sign of it actually starting? You would think they would be calling people already if first group are starting on Monday. Has anyone heard of any yet?
I assume it will be a very limited rollout even within this older group before ramping up properly.

Someone posted on the main Covid thread that their 83 year old mother received an appointment for her 1st vaccination for the 2nd week in April.
My dad is 84 and he hasn’t heard anything yet

It will probably vary by gp surgery but hopefully all over 85s are done soon. My Grandad is almost 86 and hasnt heard anything either. I cant wait for him to get it!

I guess there are a lot of the over 85’s who still live at home/ with family that didn’t qualify for the vaccine in group one as they live independently
