Denroches Cross is the junction of Magazine Road, Glasheen Road and Bandon Road, the Centra divides them and you have Annie Macs and Cissies at the junction either.

The 64 in Poulavone are Ballincollig but the 43 at Denroches Cross are not. I think this is the site behind Centra where these houses are going.

    Well that isn't ideal

Not all covid, but if we do get another covid patient for ICU then what?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,692 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

CUH still at 20 Covid patients with 1 in ICU. Hopefully the outbreak has been contained

Mercy has had 2 more COVID patients, up to 7. 2 remain in ICU

The million dollar question. Deal on a pro rata basis I'd suppose.

This table says L3 is one household visit allowed. L4 is no visitors allowed...

Been reading the thread in the main Covid forum & apparently the wording was such that they could change the visitor numbers within L3.
The table I referenced earlier was widely available at the time & I’d say more people saw that than the full document with more detail, leading to confusion.

    Not good.

Not all Covid? Only 1 in CUH & 2 in the Mercy. So very little because of Covid. How many beds do each of them have?

What next? Maybe private hospitals will need to be used. I know during the first wave a deal was struck but the capacity wasn’t needed. The deal has since expired but I’m sure they could sort something out if needs be.

Another covid case or even just a car accident, or heart attack or something... disaster to have no margin for anything going wrong..

I have heard of 6 positive cases out of a pub in Blackpool.

Good segment on the Claire Byrne show this morning on how CUH is currently managing with the increase in covid patients. Probably same situation in all other acute hospitals. Well worth a listen.

Sweden had a pretty similar ratio of ICU beds per 100k, of around 5.5, doubled their ICU bed capacity in 3 weeks last March.
In Ireland 25 extra beds, an increase of 10% have been added in 7 months.
Its not like this was unforeseen, our ratio is half the EU average.

That might well have something to do with the willingness of Swedes to actually pay for services through taxation. Irish people don't like paying tax. ICU beds cost money.
The last budget had no income tax increases but the amount of people howling that "the working man/woman wasn't given a break!", is unreal.

The Govt have plenty of money to dish out to other areas.
17Bn extra in the budget .
The main priority should be ICU beds so that the country doesn't have to go back into lockdown crippling the economy even further which means more bailouts and even more cost to the taxpayer.
20Bn deficit this year ,an expected 21Bn next year , plenty of money to handout ,50m for students to adjust to online courses but not enough to get extra ICU beds .Priorities are all wrong.

Irish people don’t hold the monopoly on not being fond of paying tax. That’s a pretty widespread belief. And if we like it or not it’s deducted at source, so the government get it.

But what your missing is the section between tax collection and services provided, and thats the level of waste that exists within the current system. The waste in government spending would pay for plenty of ICU beds. The waste within the HSE would blow your mind if you knew about it. I know about a very small amount of it, and it’s millions. That’s just the HSE. It happens in other departments, remember the debacle of the printer for Leinster house? That’s a regular occurrence.

Paying tax and getting the services is one thing. Paying tax and it going to people who have no intention of work, going to inflated salaries for some public sector workers and being wasted all over the place is another, and that's what we do as a country.

CEO of HSE said today the CUH has now began utilising surge capacity due to its lack of ICU beds. This is quite mad, considering there is only 1 COVID patient in ICU there.

Ireland also don't hold a monopoly on perceived government inefficiencies, either.

    Yawn.
Perhaps it would be better if we all stopped paying tax in that case??

Paying tax so you actually have services, paying tax so public sector bottom of the chain feel valued and provide better services. Paying tax so the state can employ more people including those living off benefits and giving them an entry level job. Paying tax to have resources to enforce ppl on benefits get educated and put on the workforce. Paying taxes so public sector workers don't feel threatened when a jobseeker comes to their meeting at the office. Paying taxes so we actually have an effective Garda force. Paying taxes so we have an effective regulator that will watch over Garda so it doesn't abuse power. Paying tax so there's an actual trash collection and not some privately runned bs. Paying taxes so there's an actual healthcare system...

But hey.. all other countries with high taxation are wrong and you are right :D

CUH full and some closure is bad :( Will the private hospitals be used for public patients?

    Serious question:

How are they going to police the ban on house visits?

Like obviously a big group or party at a house is pretty obvious but what about 1 person just visiting?

Aren’t they given every student €250 into their hands aswell? Is that the 50 million?

No, its a refund of our student fees which is granted given we aren't even on campus using any of the facilities and are basically just looking at computer screens and slides all day. They aren't just giving us 250 out of nowhere

That 250, for me personally, will be going into the rest of my students fees for next year and a lot of parents pay their childrens fees so the parents then would be getting the 250 "into their hands."

Calm down, I was a student myself so know about the costs. Just was listening to the budget and that was what I heard something about 250.

Using a chart to show tax as a share of GDP is just inaccurate as our GDP is highly inflated.

I'd refute most of your other points but not really the thread for it
