Unfortunately I have no gardening background so hence my question.

If Euonymus japonicus (Japanese spindle) is kept at a fairly standard hedge height, say, 1.2 metres, is the size of the root system subsequently restricted compared to if the plant is allowed to grow to its full height?

    I'd presume it is...

    Thanks.

There is a general rule of thumb that the area of roots for a plant is approximately the same size as the above ground area of the plant so trimming the plant should mean there is less pressure on it to produce a bigger root area.

    Thanks very much.
