I'm not sure the description of "destroys" lockdown policy but I think its more of a growing trend I'm noticing; unless a reasonable road map out of this is forthcoming, as another poster put it, "They've lost the dressing room" and public cooperation will vanish.

The hell with the lot of it. Open everything up. I need a haircut and a pint and a trip to pennys for jocks. Plus I can't survive on the pup payments I have a lifestyle to uphold. Swamp the hospitals with sick people. Sure the nurses and doctors are over paid anyways. They don't need to go home to see their own families. We will just watch your old parents and neighbours die at home, little Johnny down the road has chronic asthma sure can't he die in peace at home. Keep the hospital full with the people who can survive a couple of weeks in icu. So what if it kills off the old and the weak sure I will be fine. I only ever look out for myself anyways. Fxxx everybody else they don't matter to me.
OR we could just hold out for another couple of months and ride it out.
    Rant over good bye

Yeah, we've only had the longest lockdown in Europe and it looks like it'll be another 2 months at least, but **** it lets drive the place into a recession that'll leave the country on its knees for years.

And don't forget nobody ever died before covid 19, the hospitals were never overrun every winter and nobody waited for treatment.

Personal responsibility seems like an alien concept to people now, no lets lockdown a population of 5 million for a virus that has a mortality rate of 00.03%

Our lockdown has us with less cases per million than most countries in Europe. So its obviously keeping numbers down.
    You are still working yes?
    Is there a recession? No
Will be be a recession? A small one but with people getting the payments and less holidays and less money spent in shops pubs restaurants. They will have plenty of money for spending when this is over.
The mortality rate is actually 3% worldwide.
See what happened when we opened up for Christmas?

The longest lockdown in Europe has half a million people out of work and children only getting back to school in the last week.

I'm working away here, but I can see that what's happening here is a disgrace.

Your in dreamland, the recession that's on the way will put the crash in 00s in the hapenny place, Ireland has the highest debt per capita in Europe and it's growing every day.

The cases were already increasing when the country was "opened up" for 6 days, it was a handy excuse for nphet and the government to say look what's happened when we open.

As for the mortality rate, I should have said for under 65s the rate is 00.03%, 3000 deaths in Ireland have been in nursing homes, the response to the virus in Ireland has been scandalous from the start to now, the vaccine rollout is a joke, 300 vaccines giving last Sunday and we're supposed to do more.

Mortality rate, or death rate, is a measure of the number of deaths in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time.

A mortality rate of 99.97% would solve all our environmental problems.

The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress. Joseph Joubert

The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It's to promote critical thinking.

I see that the EU has "discovered" 29 million doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine in a factory in Italy.
Seemingly made in the Netherlands, and destined for the UK, but diverted to Italy.
Possibly to avoid any chance of an export ban.

According to Twitter sources these could be intended for Canada and Mexico (and so not subject to export ban given their lower vaccination rates than EU)

Some I think, not all. Seems fair shenanigans going on.

“There are 13m doses of vaccine waiting for quality control release to be dispatched to Covax as part of our commitment to supply millions of doses to low-income countries, the vaccine was made outside the EU and brought to the Anagni plant to be filled into vials,” the company said.

It added that a further 16m doses were waiting for quality control release before being dispatched to Europe. “Close to 10m doses will be delivered to EU countries during the last week of March, [and] the balance in April as the doses are approved for release after quality control.”

The Company here is called Catalent a US company.

What do ye think of the spare covid vaccines from the beacon hospital being given to the private school staff were the head of the beacon hospitals kids go to school?

There's a whole thread for it on the coronavirus formula... the whole thing reeks of corruption and if the Beacon are playing fast and loose with the vaccines what else are they playing fast and loose with. Time for an audit.
The idea that these 20 teachers just happened to be available without an earlier nod beggars belief.

Yes, the plebs (no offence) shall give out but no impact.

So what we need is for the people who received the vaccine to publically state why they think they should go ahead of more needy. Let's hear their justification and those who supported them.

Shall our media/politicians grab this and push for it?

Had seed cleaners in Feb, one of the blokes son's turned up to be over in the states as a virologist who worked on the current generation of vaccine for a company. Essentially what's in use atm the minute was genetic material that was lying about related to measels that was tweaked to cover the first mutation of covid, it's only now the work is starting to make a designer version that is dedicated to the covid virus as there's never been the sort of money(blank cheque) available since probably ww2 to play around in labs.

That former judge is blowing hot air, hasn't a bull's notion what he's talking about and just because he's Lord something doesn't give it any more credence.

Well a number of the new vaccines are based on mRNA and on the work of Katalin Kariko in this field. Hopefully she gets the Nobel prize.
The Oxford/AZ is tweaked from an Ebola/Mers base vaccine.
It is true that Kariko had difficulty getting funding for her research. This mRNA is geared mainly for use as a bespoke individuals cancer treatment.

There is a lot of wisom in what he has been saying for the past year. Politicians and health "experts" aren't exactly in a rush to give us back our pre covid freedoms.
Bring on the mother of all collapses, society deserves it at this stage as it's the only thing that will jolt people out of hysteria...

Interesting how covid can be prevalent at such high levels in asymptomatic people who would otherwise have never been tested.
Really think the very two dimensional view of disease is inadequate for understanding covid...

A friends mother was in hospital before christmas and caught covid then and was sick with it. Was tested before going back in 3 months later and came back as positive despite zero symptoms or having been anywhere to catch it.
Have been saying it for a year now that no-one actually really knows what the numbers mean...
