It's getting serious, but sometimes you just got to laugh.

10,030 people have died so far from the virus. Seems like a lot until you consider that the world population will grow by 120,000 today alone.

Yes, but Govn'ts are very aware of where that figure might be going if they don't get ahead of it. They are prepared to freeze the economy and cause a possible depression.

Got a text last night bord bia inspection is suspended and certification will be extended for 2 months.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭endainoz

Would it be nearly safe to say all inspections won't go ahead for a while now, not just bord bia?

You'd have to hope so. Bord bia inspections were still going ahead until yesterday

Something to come out of all this lock down and reduced air travel is the improvement in air quality. At the same time where agricultural activity has continued.

Same should be done for other stuff like herd test, driving licence etc. to avoid any unnecessary contact or travel

That will have to come from the EU. The Government has already stated that the BPS, ANC and other payments cannot start until the mandated inspections are completed.

So until the EU say they're being suspended, expect them to continue as normal.

If this Irish project achieves its goal of building ventilators it will be a remarkable contribution. Outside of trained staff, the shortage of ventilators is the main worry. Having to decide who has the best chance of survival is not a choice any one wants to have to make.

Did you see where there is a multi national company looking to sue a small business for 3D printing a small clip that's used in the medical wards as there is a serious shortage. Think they were only charging the hospitals $1 but the companies were $100s

Heard of a golf club sending emails out about sunday lunch for mothers day in their club restaurant. Is this still allowed?

How do people feel about going to Marts at the moment?....have to buy some stock for grass but am mindful of fact the virus is meant to be able to last on hard surfaces for hours and gates etc in mart could be a dodgy spot for it.

Being anywhere other than at home at the moment is making me feel very socially awkward and unsure of being out at all.

Any chance you could get a copy of that e mail...that institution could do with a couple of rattles, and and a little clarity in that some of those that visit on Sunday will be dead in a months time...

Advice from a nurse for what to do when you are sick...

    (

“What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place -- good hand washing, personal hygiene and social distancing -- but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will. So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions:

You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it might come your way!

Things you should actually buy ahead of time (not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?):
    Kleenex,
    Paracetamol,
whatever your generic, mucus thinning cough medicine of choice is (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol)
Honey and lemon can work just as well!
Vick vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.

If you don’t have a humidifier, that would be a good thing to buy and use in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam).

If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.

This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.

Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink - though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!

For symptom management and a fever over 38°c, take Paracetamol rather than Ibuprofen.

    Hydrate (drink!) hydrate, hydrate!
Rest lots. You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better you may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided!
Ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.

You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 39°C) and unmanaged with meds. 90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds.

If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse, ring 111 and they will advise if you need to go to hospital. The hospital beds will be used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids.

If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.

One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus— they usually bounce back in a few days (but they will still be infectious), Just use pediatric dosing.

I had to get drugs today from a pharmacy. I rang ahead and asked what I should do. Thanked me for ringing and told me to drop off the prescription and collect in an hour. Could only just get inside the door, all taped off and left it on a box.
Couldn't help but think how vurnerable they are. Chances are someone is bound to go in there with the virus, thinking they have only a cold.

Heard some of trading folk who were abroad come home to Rathkeale. Holding parties. Driving around like its Chrustmas. As well they are supposed to have go e into A&E demanding hand santizers, masks and protective gear as some are back from Italy.

I went to boots in Drogheda. It was crazy as if there is no pandemic. Went to marks and Spencer to get my mother's mothers day present. As I am the only one living beside her I had to go get it. It was very well organised. I wore a pair of milking gloves. Couldn't believe how dirty they were when I got back to the car. Makes you think

Loss of sense of taste or smell may be clinical indicators of Covid 19 in otherwise asymptomatic carriers.
