Front door has being rammed the last three nights. Most pubs have closed for business for the next two weeks. This place isnt even sticking to the 100 person advice laid out by the government.

I'm led to believe they'll be closed from Monday.

    From City Tribune fb page...

Statement from Tom McDonagh, Vintners’ Federation of Ireland Galway City Chairman:
Since the government’s announcement last Thursday that all pubs and restaurants could remain open subject to implementing social distancing guidelines, we as publicans have tried our best to work within those guidelines.
Over the past couple of days, it has become obvious that keeping a safe distance between customers is extremely difficult to achieve, therefore we are recommending to our members to close all Galway city pubs today for the next two weeks to protect our staff and customers as the nation battles Coronavirus.

Why would you wear a facemask?

    Several reasons.

To reassure the customers that you won't easily pass on the virus
That steps are being taken to limit transfer
To protect the person wearing it and consequently the customer
Used with gloves and sanitizer should be effective.

It's the right thing to do but it's hard to believe that they aren't trying to get the statement out there before the government acts decisively on this issue in the next 24 hours.
Their workers need to be taken care of.

Renmore community center has seen a lot of activity this morning .
Looks like it's going to be used as a " test center " for virus .
A couple of rapid response cars parked up at rear of gym next door .

I saw Dela announcement that they closed

A load of smaller independant restaurants and cafes will go bust over this. They can't afford to just shut up shop for weeks. The council needs to freeze rents for a while.

Everyone is in the same boat.
If they don’t shut up shop for a few weeks, then they’ll directly and indirectly lose a lot of prospective customers to this virus, and shut up shop eventually anyways.

Council don't control rents, unless you mean rates?

More than a thousand people have died in Italy in the last week because they ignored this just like most of Ireland is ignoring it now. We’re about 2 weeks behind them.
    Yes.

If you look a the data from the Italy...

    26 Feb - 80 cases
    14 Mar - 20k cases

Ireland had 80 cases 2 days ago. We'll see in three weeks time. The lock down was a good idea.

Closing after brunch. Saw a few restaurants saying they're getting one last weekend of trading and closing up later today.

Salthill is hopping. All the cafes are packed with lines out the door.

Great day for a walk on the prom though.

    .

    Well that's infuriating!
Particularly when like you say people can walk the prom on this gorgeous day perfectly freely and safely.

This is a very disturbing tweet by Philip Boucher Hayes. It's a worrying reminder no one is immune here.
A Dr on RTE radio this morning briefly discussed WHO stats until she was rudely cut off. One interesting point she made was that the median age of death is 57 years old. That means half of deaths occur above this age and half below.

    That's worrying for everyone.

If you're in your 20s and out in pubs, thats your parents you're very likely putting at risk, not just your grandparents, it's also you, albeit at less risk.

If you're queuing up outside cafe's you're absolutely part of the impending problem.

I got a takeaway coffee in 2 different cafes in salthill and the trade was way down in both of them compared to a normal sunday. Both normally have queues and there was a load of spare tables in both.

    The prom was packed.

Noticed a few lads drinking on the streets today whod normally be in the pub. This is what we have to look forward to

Was in around town a few hours ago. All the pubs closed. Some restaurants still open. Soo if you are a mad lush I suppose you could get gargled on wine.

Pubs out in the county still opened. (I suppose less chance of big crowds swamping them)

    You didn't look hard enough.

Mcgettigan, Richardsons, the Skef, the Imperial were open. Barr an Chaladh were open earlier but had closed by about 3PM.

    Shame on them.
