Connecting old set of speakers to laptop

Hi there ,


Maybe someone here can help me out .


I have a very old set of speakers form an old sound system that has given up the ghost.


The sound from these was great.


It has this type of connection

I am wondering if I get some kind of adapter like something like this

then maybe I can get it to connect using some combo of adapters.


But what about a power source ? These speakers don't have one and relied on the stereos. So would it even work or would it become too expensive a project as I'd have to put some sort of power source in place ?

If the speakers dont have their own power source then you need to use an amplifier.
It can be done cheaply for example i have used this in the past:

it takes standard audio input 3.5mm or rca, and outputs ample power for most speakers (unpowered, passive).

Audio quality at price point is more than you can expect.
Alternatively 150euros would get you reputable brand amplifier.

Looks very affordable , how about hooking it up , will I need something like the adapters in my post ?

Ah wait I see there are connections for my type of speaker around the back !

The output from the amplifier is standard speaker wire connectors (left and right channel for both speakers). so no adaptors required for standard speakers.

Just bear in mind you will need a power supply for the amplifier.

I have had a few renditions of these over the years and the TPA3116 based ones I have found to be far higher quality and you can run them off an old laptop power supply. Will run up to 25v so much higher volume capability than the Ta2024a models.

I run mine off old 180w hp laptop supplies, only thing about these is they are very well protected so sometimes the power supply protection trips on power on due to surge you have to switch off the supply for 20-30seconds and switch on again.

For the speakers? You don't need to they are combined binding post/banana terminals see here:

Your type of speaker wires will usually have a stripe on one of the wires connect that to the black terminal.
