That's a troop carrier for the U.S Army, would have quite a lot of weapons/ammunition on board too i'd say...

That looks to be a fair bit of damage.

Why would all the window blinds be down ?
Meant to be open for landing .

The photo appears to be after removal to a stand somewhere else, not directly after the landing. Presumably someone closed them.

    Depends.

It’s 18 years old but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be repaired

Could be going to Knock to keep the A380 company if the repairs are deemed uneconomical.

If an unpressurised ferry flight is allowed. They're hardly going to patch it up just so they can fly it to Knock for breaking.

Presume the turbulence coming off the hangars had a role here?

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

Just re-skin it, will be grand! maybe! :)

Looks a little bit like the Delta 757 in PDL that had the hard landing, most people thought it'd be scrapped immediately but they repaired and it's back in service.

    That's definitely repairable.
It might take a bit of time and cost a few bob but if something like this was going to happen to one of your aircraft you couldn't wish for it to happen in a better location.
No shortage of suitably skilled and qualified personnel to get this thing flying again.
Eight weeks work maximum but most likely a lot less.

A poster on Boards.ie happens to be member of the US army (currently a Nat Guard major)
He has previously related the restrictions on weapons for flights.

No weapons on ferry flights such as this, these troops were going onward to a US military base where their gear has been pre-positioned.

Troops flights INTO/OUT OF a warzone (ie Iraq, Afghanistan) personal weapons only (ie M-4 and pistol) with max of 2 mags per weapon.

They say Boeing are making arrangements to repair it.

That's essentially a cracked fuselage. Way more than a hard landing.

As said above, coudnt of happened at a better place. Vast of experience at Shannon.

    Its a disgrace Joe!

In the present climate this could end being scrapped.

Still sitting in Shannon waiting on work to be carried out.

    Civilian :-) question
Would that landing have been very uncomfortable or even hurt passengers on board?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭kirving

I flew on an Omni charter to Spain (Dublin - Almeria) the guts of 15 years ago. Aside from the all American cabin crew, the one thing I remember well was the ridiculously steep take off and hard landing. I guess it made sense flying into and out of Iraq.
