Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Apparently a lot of their top players have low release clauses that come into play if the club does not have Champions League football, which will happen based on the current rulings.

That is mad if true. Poor league performance can get you an out easier if you wanted to leave?

Now that is a real class act from these clubs.

I can't see the big boys doing it.

Espanyol and Leganés will give fans free tickets for next season
Espanyol and Leganés season-ticket holders will be handed free passes for the 2020-2021 campaign to compensate for missing matches owing to the shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic............

“Leganés will automatically renew all its season-ticket holders for the next season,” the club said. “Taking into account the implications that Covid-19 has brought to the country and specially the city of Leganés, the club wants to compensate its fans and season-ticket holders.”

Espanyol said that in addition to offering its 27,833 season-ticket holders free 2020-2021 passes, they would also reimburse 20% of the value of their current season ticket.

Getafe were the first La Liga club to offer season-ticket holders free passes for next season.

Very sad, mental health aspect shouldnt be underestimated for footballers at this time.
Way too much criticism of footballers online surrounding the Covid 19 situation.

It doesn't mention anything of suicide or anything mental health related. It could be a heart attack or SDS.

Mental health shouldn't be underestimated for anybody.

Its a lovely gesture by the club but does anyone thing there will be fans back in attendance at games next season. I'd have serous doubts.
But its a great PR gesture by the club either way.

Next step (Contact training) to a return cleared. It’s getting close now

The Premier League released the following statement on Wednesday.

Premier League Shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training - marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so.

Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact.

The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.

Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government. Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow.

    Excellent news.

I think they need to agree on a return date next.

Starting to look like it's really going to happen.

This staggered ramp up of activities is a good way of doing it.

    What's the next stage/vote?

Any idea about the schedule? As in are they intending on fulfilling the fixtures in the original order they were intended on being played?

So is the merseyside derby the first game back for Liverpool/Everton if the season resumes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

wonder what will happen with neatrel grounds or will that still happen?
Bundesliga had very few home wins.

Hopefully the testing continues to go well & the league will be back.

It is looking good to come back but one outbreak in a club will strike fear into everyone so hopefully it continues to goe well.

The virus is now not really prominent in London at all though. No new cases in a day last week.

I would say start with the teams with games in hand and get those ones out of they way.

I would be very surprised if there is any change to the matchday order of fixtures considering European & relegation implications

I think we'll see a resumption of the games based on the original fixture list.

Also, the Standard Chartered app had a 'technical error' over 3 week ago, advertising the Everton v Liverpool game as June 16th at 21.00. A very specific game and date to be testing a webpage with and releasing by accident, especially when it was pretty much the exact proposed restart date.

When has a game in the UK kicked off at 9pm

When has a game in the UK kicked off at 9pm

With no crowds to take in to consideration, there will be unusual ko times to maximise the number of games to be shown, so 9pm is a possibility.

I'm not sure, but it's possible. Games kick off as it is at 8.00 and 8.15 so it's not exactly a massive difference.

The evenings are longer now during the summer so lighting is not an issue, and also the timeslots for games will have to be staggered to allow more games get played in less days, on more TV slots.

Villa have released a statement about refunding fans their season tickets etc and make mention of games almost certainly being played on neutral grounds.

Proposed Premier League televised schedule on return...

    Saturday - 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm.
    Sunday - 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm.
    Tuesday - 6pm, 8pm
    Wednesday - 6pm, 8pm

According to Miguel Delaney in the Independent "even figures like Troy Deeney are said to have been impressed with the extent of detail and scientific research offered. After a period when those player concerns had been seen as the main obstacle to Project Restart, a number of factors have turned the mood." Maybe Troy could have waited to see all the plans etc. before running off to the tabloids!

Did crowds gather in their thousands outside the stadium for dortmund and bayern the biggest game of the German season, or have the general population become accustomed to the new normal and aren't now acting the way they did before football was stopped.

FFS. Nothing is ever good enough for some people. Always looking for a reason to snipe at people.

He asked questions of the authorities in discussions about football being brought back and wasn't happy with the answers given - and commented to that. In a fecking snapchat or instagram or screenshot of a note on his phone - so he didn't go running off to the tabloids.

A week or so later, the authorities have, seemingly, come back with better answers, reasons and evidence - things they should have had in the first place - and seemingly a critical player has changed his mind based on the information provided.

But no, thats not good enough, continue to take shots.

I can't see any mention of neutral grounds here. It just says that the season will be completed behind closed doors.

Another Watford player speaking out saying he does not want the league to restart. Gomes this time.

It doesn't look like he says he has any health concerns himself, but more that 'the bigger clubs have more of an advantage because they can afford players to sit out games'.

"Until a vaccine is developed" is a dodgey threshold.

What will his club do for revenue if its not available for next season?

I wonder would anyone not feeling comfortable consider the possibility of them having to quit professional football in an extreme case?

Which a fully vetted vaccine almost certainly won't be... there's some talk of a sped-through vaccine being released, but then you have exactly the same concerns of people being unwilling to risk taking something that hasn't had the recommended 14 months of human trials, when they're otherwise healthy with no underlying conditions.

Pretty much whatever way you look at it, by his standards we can't have "fully confirmed safe football" until 21/22, which of course would mean returning to a very different footballing landscape (and not returning at all in the case of many/most).

When they are on the verge of going down will we see them all back then ?

Youd swear it was the loi he was playing in with a mix of full time professional clubs and part time ones. No PL team is (or at least should be and if they are its on them) in a position to play the poor mouth. They have the resources to have full squads of internationals.

Breaking: 4 positive results at 3 clubs from more than 1000 samples in Round 3 of Premier League #COVID19 testing. Follows 2 positives (2 clubs) from 996 samples in Round 2 & 6 positives (3 clubs) from 748 in Round 1. Total 12 positives from more than 2744 tests.

I guess it's still positive, pardon the word that it's less than half a percent but probably more positive still spread across three different clubs.

Does mean another club has two cases though it could that be the Watford case again?

Depends on when it starts. If kick off is a saturday, then it'll be full round of games then probably the catch up games mid week.

Other side is start the previous mid week with the full round on the sat /sun
