Correct SPF and SMTP settings for using Email Plus through Gmail?

    Hi,

I'm using Blacknights Email Plus product on a domain I have hosted with Blacknight and as with almost all domains I own, I send and receive mail via my Gmail account. The Blacknight / EmailPlus / Gmail combo however seems to be problematic as I occasionally see the dreaded red question mark in Gmail, I know I'm getting sent to spam at some recipients and sometimes getting blocked outright by Microsoft properties.

What is the exact setup for this to work like all other email sending through Gmail:

SPF: Blacknight defaults to "v=spf1 a include:spf.blacknight.ie ~all". I've increased this out to "v=spf1 a mx include:spf.blacknight.ie include:_spf.google.com ~all" but I've seen little difference and now I'm up on my 10 DNS lookups for SPF

Gmail: I'm set to receive on POP, port 995 using mail.blacknight.com and always using a secure connection. No issues here that I can tell

I send out from Gmail, not as an alias, again on mail.blacknight.com and on port 587 using TLS. Is this correct or should I be sending out on smtp1r.cp.blacknight.com, which is the default MX record for the domain?

What is the correct SPF / SMTP settings to stop these red question marks and questionable delivery?

    Thanks
