I have a Disability and work in a public office, luckily, I don't have direct contact with the public. My manager has advised me not to panic as yet.
Do they have some hidden knowledge that you don't? Why are you taking your manager as having the final say when it's clear that public health officials are mismanaging the situation? If you have a disability, depending on what it is, you are likely at higher risk of infection. If you have any underlying health issues, getting this in the next few weeks could mean that there won't be access to vital medical supplies that could save your life in the event that you are infected.

The public complacency surrounding this is going to result in absolute carnage, it's actually frightening to watch people walk around while there's a deadly virus running absolutely rampant up and down the country.

What about the people who have mild symptoms, think it will just pass and then suddenly worsens, which is what I heard happens. Early days, there could be loads of people who think the are out of the woods who then deteriorate. The myth of only old people being affected, might be the disaster waiting to happen.
says it all on all those having nothing else to speculate on with no education or understating, if the brain heads at WHO or CDC cant tell much surely whatever clown came up with that isnt source for anything.

Mercy University Hospital in Cork has confirmed that it is treating three in-patients who have tested positive for coronavirus.

All three are associated with travel to an affected region, and are understood to have returned from a trip abroad together.

In a statement, a hospital spokesman said the three patients were diagnosed in the community and had a co-ordinated, planned admission to Mercy University Hospital.

The hospital said the patients are in a dedicated room in the hospital where they are receiving appropriate care. It said the correct protective measures have been used at all times by staff involved in their care.

what needs to happen is for people to realize this crap either gets em, passes, them or takes them, live normal life, if italy stats are that most cases were well into 80s focus should be on elderly and care homes, hysteria like few mentioning coming in contact with who they suspect or having some cough is **** that's only good for mentaly ill people to spread around hysteria, as too many of those who love to sit in hospitals in this country as is, so no need to spread misinformation rather tackle only serious or vunerable cases, rest can ride it out as stats run almost even to those infected and getting better with little to none symptoms.

So your solution is do nothing and leave the elderly and sick die?

The Irish Times are today reporting that there are plans for increased testing in hospital laboratories in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. Along with the NVRL this would increase capacity to thousands of samples a day.

Testing criteria has also been expanded to those with respiratory symptoms but no history of travel to effected areas.

This is when we will see a massive increase in cases I feel.

Trinity are being made defend their decision of a partial shutdown going against Department advice.

Their answer was quite telling and pretty clear.

'We listened to the experts, including our own'

Looks like it will spread to all areas of the country.
People in general are not taking this seriously enough.
The first deaths will bring them to their senses.
Maybe shouldn't say, but on the other hand, also good to be informed and prepared:

Some people may get shocked during the 1st deaths, as the 'normal procedures' won't be adhered to: No had shakes, no soil to be turned.

Cremations are recommended as the virus can remain present for many days, and most FD's won't open their premesis or provide services.
Not really their choice, but standard procedures under such pandemic conditions.

I think that's exactly what the EUs response has been. Economy first, people second, they'll pile us on a fire to keep the money rolling, and that's essentially what will happen.
The first responsibility of government in a democratic society is to protect and safeguard the lives of its citizens.

It will be a sad day for western Democracies if it turns out that Authoritarian regimes take better care their people.

The few bright lights for democracies are South Korea and especially Taiwan.

Taiwan has millions of visitors from China and only 45 coronavirus cases. Here’s how.

As such this outbreak was not Italian carelessness at all, but rather that of Germany. It was unfortunate that the first person infected in Italy was not diagnosed for so long, but there was no thought that he was at risk of having picked up covid-19 as he had not personally traveled to China.

They're dead right. Even if schools can't close without dept approval boards of management should be telling parents who can to keep their kids at home.

National geographic in on it now, they’ve realised the hysteria sells so well among the vulnerable and anxiety ridden.

We'll all expect your apologies in due course.
A lot of it depends on how many tests are done. Countries that don't do much testing will report high death rates as they only see the serious cases. Other countries (for example, South Korea) that are doing a lot of testing, are reporting low death rates (< 1%).

The other thing is, the sooner you find that someone's positive, the sooner you can intervene to try and contain the damage that the virus is doing to that person, so time IS of the essence. And that's without taking into account the chances of asymptomatic people infecting others.

Trinity College Dublin defends decision to cancel lectures

Trinity College Dublin has defended its decision to go further than current Department of Health advice and cancel all lectures.

It has emerged also that the curtailing of teaching at the college is wider than originally anticipated with some departments cancelling not just lecturers but all teaching, including to small groups of student in tutorials.

Yesterday the university announced that it was cancelling all lectures, and closing all tourist attractions including the Book of Kells exhibition.

The Trinity College decision to cancel lectures, and some smaller classes, goes beyond current Department of Health advice, which is that schools and colleges should remain open and that teaching should continue.

Asked about this a spokesperson said the college had to follow "the best advice that is available to us".

He said Trinity College was listening to the Health Service Executive, and also to the World Health Organization, as well as to experts from within its own academic staff.

"We have informed the HSE, but we have to do what is best for us, and this is what we think is best", the spokesperson said.

He pointed out that 55 universities worldwide have done similar, including universities where no cases of the virus have been detected.

One case of Covid-19 was detected last week at the college's Biomedical Sciences Institute. This is where Trinity College's immunology research centre is located.

They don't. China couldn't give a toss about its citizens. They are only interested in protecting their economy.

I suppose that at the top of the medical profession there are many individuals with very strong opinions who are used to making life or death decisions on a daily basis and being able to take the responsibility for the outcomes.

Are they good at taking instructions/advice from above or do they see themselves as the top?
