Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Johnson gets a tough question and totally ignores it, then passes the question. ****ing hell.

Look, people saying the US and UK might get it right with their approach. Lets look at the one thing we know so far.

There has been no special cases in terms of countries stopping this or slowing it down WITHOUT total lockdown, why the hell would the US and UK be any different?

UK approach is more sensible by far. Acknowledges reality and has plans in place rather than a premature lockdown that will have to be lifted before the virus is under control anyway.

There was at least one "expert" that stated you can be infected after recovery.

I heard it on a radio station so don't have a link and I can't recall how it was determined.

Was it for people who had compromised immune systems?
    Because that would make sense.

People are being daft of course. The Govt will have no difficulty keeping supply chains open.

Well no problem as long as people remain fit and health, as long as they don’t have to isolate for 14 days if they do get it, and the UK don’t go into meltdown and we have a problem getting goods in.
But ah sure it will be grand.

Well that's because the government have not made an announcement like our government did today.

Also, maybe their media is different there (no idea if it is or not) but I find the Irish media is spreading a lot of panic and mistruths.

My parents there too, older, and living in an area with lots of older retirees. They said no one is talking about it.

They are taking precautions however, and not doing any socialising.

The media are both a blessing and a curse; you need a strong constitution (no pun intended) to get to the facts.

It can be quite distressing - any little cough or shiver you have and you think "is this it??"

Not sure if this will help with mild symptoms but apparently a saltpipe inhaler helps the respiratory system.

    You should tell the Italians.

Hard to compare really but I'd say you're not far off .

The same scientists are speculating that the 'real' death rate could be under 1%, as the likelihood is that many Cvd cases simply haven't been detected or identified

He didn't make a distinction. The topic was how long it could go on for and making the point that it cold be difficult as people can be infected more than once

    Sensible from what perspective?

Sacrificing lives in the name of their economy?

How at the same time is England being told shutting schools and sports events won't make a difference ?

I don't get how there is just a strak difference ,

It’s a new virus so there are a lot of unknowns. Experts disagree on best practice.

Pull the trigger too early, and effectiveness of certain measures will be useless and even counter productive.

They've clearly accepted this is coming, and its all about lessening the peak.
They may have it right and we may have it wrong.
    Time, unfortunately, will tell all.

Well they say moved to the next phase but nothing is changing and they're not doing what any other country in the world is doing.

I think the cases are grossly under reported, maybe 3 or 4x

It's accepted that cases are probably x10 underreported according to UK press conference now.

Bear in mind that it could take a week or more for the effects of the lockdown to translate into a levelling-off in new case detections, so we won't know for a few days if what Italy has done is working.

In honestly think European style lockdowns are not up to much!

25K people leaving Lombardy the evening the lock down was announced is not going to help reduce cases/deaths anytime soon!

It could be, but health systems around the world are being overwhelmed by this virus so we just can't know if that eventuality would ever have been possible.

I get the outrage but also to play devil's advocate do random internet people know more than Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Advisor of the UK?

    They are pretty qualified tbf.

Everything about that video is sickening. The fact its in portrait mode, the horizontal filming, everything.

I was in Lahinch County Clare last Summer and saw a tourist standing in an incredibly dangerous place, on a really slippy rock, with massive waves crashing just by their feet.....all to take a vertical video......

Back on topic, there is a guaranteed baby boom coming out of this....Mark my words.

Italy: Of the total people dead, 98% were over 68 years of age (so much for this being something that affects mostly old people), and 67% had pre-existing conditions (so much for this being something that affects mostly frail people).
