Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No. Italy has 60 million people. 12,000 cases. 0.02% of the population

That percentage of our population, 4.7 million, is 940 cases.

Most places are. Hopefully the measures today will help us avoid Italy two weeks from now.

Thursday morning next week, one week from now, how many diagnosed cases and deaths from Covid-19 in the ROI?

    I'll go for 95 and 2.
    Not a million miles away.

Point being we had a good idea where this was going this time last week.

So the Uk basically contradicted what we did today re closing schools saying it’s too soon and that people will be fatigued by the time it’s really necessary

UK phrase was the “reasoning behind school closure is weak”. PHET quoting EU Disease control centre advice was that social distancing should be entered into quickly rather than delayed.

UK position seems economy driven and an acceptance of large numbers of deaths among vulnerable adults. The argument that people will get fatigued doesn’t seem very strong.

I’d say most Irish people are very glad that sovereignty rests in Dublin, not London.

Right on par with terrifying skies over Dublin. It feels weird.

The panic buying we witnessed today was a perfect illustration of mob idiocy in plain view. A mass gathering of panicked morons all milling together, completely oblivious to the fact that in their panic they have exposed themselves and others to whatever carriers of this virus are in the community. But they have their bog roll and that's fine. The fear of missing out and the herd mentality.

Walked into dunnes on George's street to see if I could pick up a few small bits.

Rammed with people. Everyone standing on top of each other in the queues, loads of people coughing away.

I probably wandered about longer than I should have before bailing and heading home.

I don't see how people think the shops won't be open or stocked over the next few weeks.

Thousands are dead in Both China and Italy
Spain, Germany and France look to be heading the same way
We have been blessed with a look into the future, maybe just maybe, shutting the shops WILL be necessary to stop the spread?
It will be a miserable lock in if you have not stocked up, but go ahead hold on to your few Euros, wont be able to eat them.

If they shut the shops then countless people will starve to death, rendering the whole thing pointless.

    Give it some thought

Now at least 24,000 cases in mainland Europe, almost 1/3 of China's epidemic total in about a week. There were almost no cases in Europe 14 days ago, just a few hundred in Italy.
