Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And then they all cram into a bus after queuing 2 m apart?

Absolutelly correct. You forgot to mention quite recent attempt to coverup sars outbreak 2002-2004.
No numbers coming from North Korea are they miraculously immune?

    This is hilarious.
No numbers coming out of Galway. you gob****e.

    It's kinda a moot point.

If the actual infected cases are twice as high, then it's half as likely to kill you, but the transmission rate is twice as high as we thing. Net effect is the same.

Not really. It means that this thing is way less dangerous (although still dangerous) than what is currently feared

What countries have taking drastic actions outside China that have been effective?

Taiwan is a prime example of this.
They have 47 cases and only 1 death since Jan. They used lessons learned from the SARS outbreak and implemented the protocols they had agreed for it.

Just saying on the news now that HSE is planning for 10,000 treatment beds to be made available - for their worst case scenario.

If that's the absolute end game horror scenario, we should do everything possible to prevent it. Why are pubs and restaurants still open?. It's time to tackle the economic sacred cows and close anywhere that people can gather. If we all survive we can go back to eating and drinking out, in happier times.

Also, why are we not now banning flights in and out ? Simon Coveney on Prime Time last night muttering about EU solidarity ...... time to batton down the hatches. If they won't do it as a European team, it's time to get Trump like and go solo (to avoid the 10,000 bed scenario).

thanks to the informative posts here its kept me ready and prepared for what's come and what's ahead.

should we lockdown before the pubs are packed on Tuesday.

The HSE is to identify 10,000 extra beds just in case.

The other thing I would say is that older people are not thick!

Self or imposed isolation of the elderly parents should not be the sole decision of their children!

Talk to elderly parents about the risks and make mutual/joint decisions about arrangements for visiting.

Ah I 100% agree with this. She was on the phone last night saying that she understands not seeing the kids until this passes over... it might be a case of my worrisome head concerned about her.

UK chief medical advisor on sky news this morning admitting that the modelling that they are currently following is to allow 60% of the population to contract the virus.

They seem to have taken the view that it is impossible to prevent the spread of the virus. The figure of 60% is just daft. How could 60% be infected without the rest of the population being exposed one way or another.
Nobody has any immunity now, so what they are really saying is that virtually everyone will be infected, the vast majority will recover and thereby build up herd immunity.
It’s a different strategy to most countries and who’s to say it’s not the right one.

67 new cases so far this morning in Austria. Brings total to 428 in the country.

These countries are going to have serious figures by the end of the day.

Its about balance. The UK's health care system is going to be destroyed, then the economy. They will probably have to have a total lockdown in the middle of it

What makes you think the immune system cannot protect you against this? The element of luck is mainly a strong immune system along with a few other factors.
Tuna one morning, x6 eggs the next, top up with vit D every day as well as added vit c. No smoking or drinking. Everyone around had been ill, I'm good thus far

If true I would be extremely surprised by this because all sorts of legal problems could be created down the line for them.

Imagine all the legal challenges to convictions based on the prosecuting Garda having been fast tracked through the system with inadequate/incomplete training...

There health system is going to get overrun very quickly. Mot much point in doing what we are doing in this country when they are at that.
