The initial testing was entirely based out of the National Virus Reference Lab in UCD. That's now being supplemented by labs elsewhere which should ramp up the capacity a lot.

Italian Doctors on twitter stating we are not being told the truth, not just old people , those with other health issues on deaths door with Covid19, plenty of 20 year olds are in serious trouble as well.

Given the total numbers in Italy, it's no surprise that younger people are also in serious trouble. Some of them did in fact die in China but just a far lower proportion of the age group. Also bear in mind that there are many more 20 year olds everywhere in the world than there are 80 year olds.

Nobody said it didnt affect young people. Young people can have underlying health issues like cancer and diebetes too. Luke O'Neill who is very optimistic said today on the radio that the mortality rate for people with heart disease was the same when they contract covid no matter what age they are, 40 or 90

Should all blow over in a month then it will be back to business as usual with wall to wall coverage of the homeless crisis and climate change.
What other country has this happened in?
    Absolute rubbish

That's a funny joke but I'm not Thanking the post because I don't like other stuff you've said in the thread. I used to care about important stuff.

Possibly stupid question - as the numbers of recovered patients go up, can those people contribute anything to the search for a vaccine/treatment? If, presumably, they're generating antibodies, can those antibodies be transferred person to person?

One person was released from CUH today, that's been confirmed.

I hope they are still in isolation could they not still be contagious.

    Sorry to hear that.

How many of your collegues have tested positive for the virus?

None. I work for a company that don’t wait for a disaster to happen

What makes you think this will all blow over in a month? Honestly really curious.

That youtube account has posted nothing but suspiciously well made pro-Trump videos prior to now. Russian troll farm would be my guess.

Everyone should trust only mainstream media/government/hse websites for their information on this.

Surely there could be some type of balance between profits and operating with a degree of social responsibility in that case....but hey maybe not...it's still a bank!

Two to three weeks before that's up and running, Cillian whatever said in the Press Briefing earlier.

let me throw this one at you guys

Sydney , 5 million people, first case in Jan

Chinese population of Sydney born in china 5% 250,000 people.

    Total cases 60.

the 4 other corona viruses have been seasonal, hopefully it will ease in June and some miracle happens and the vaccine makes it through without the trial period, although not ideal with our a proper trials.

I hope they are still in isolation could they not still be contagious.

It said they were tested daily and the last two days they showed no sign of virus. I'm sure the discharge instructions woold have asked them to continue to exercise caution and social distancing.

    The situation is not improving

Every country today has reported an increase in the rate of increase of new infections most notably South Korea and Japan.

South Koreas increase is very disappointing. I thought they had implemented some strong containment measures early on in this.

100 more cases in Washington , USA. Almost 370 cases there now. Washington has now declared a state of emergency

Even if only a tenth of what they expect to die actually die, it’s still in the thousands in Ireland...

Have your seen the story in Italy? 7,000 people newly infected outside of China today from this.

9 new cases today, one death and one recovery. The mass panic is herd mentality, if people can picture a nature documentary with a pack of gazelle reacting to one or two being startled.

I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but 9 new cases from 34 is a 27% increase, which implies the cases will more than double ever 3 days. Just to do the math for you a little:

    13/03/20 53
    14/03/20 68
    15/03/20 87
    16/03/20 110
    17/03/20 140
    18/03/20 179
    19/03/20 227
    20/03/20 289
    21/03/20 368
    22/03/20 468
    23/03/20 596
    24/03/20 759
    25/03/20 966
    26/03/20 1,229
    27/03/20 1,564
    28/03/20 1,991
    29/03/20 2,534
    30/03/20 3,225
    31/03/20 4,104
    01/04/20 5,223
    02/04/20 6,648
    03/04/20 8,461
    04/04/20 10,769
    05/04/20 13,706
    06/04/20 17,443
    07/04/20 22,201
    08/04/20 28,256
    09/04/20 35,962
    10/04/20 45,769
    11/04/20 58,252
    12/04/20 74,139
    13/04/20 94,358
    14/04/20 120,092
    15/04/20 152,845
    16/04/20 194,530
    17/04/20 247,584
    18/04/20 315,106
    19/04/20 401,045
    20/04/20 510,420

That is where Italy are headed, hence the complete shutdown they are facing. We need to slow down the doubling rate and get as many people infected within the capacity of our hospitals as possible.
