Was Italy careless or was it just bad luck?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,926 ✭✭✭Andrea B.

I know you’re concerned but why do you think anyone here would know the answer to that?
    Ask your GP

Coz there may be someone on this thread who has information to share with the OP?
Your reply could be given for any topic raised.

Is there a reason why we are so behind on shutting schools etc Denmark have just done it too

We are following other countries and expecting different results

I'm seeing lots of shops with no hand sanitizer out , staff handling coins and a general no real difference.
I suspect that may be down to there being none to be had, and a lot of small businesses were caught out by this. Once they started looking for this sort of stuff it had probably already been picked up by larger organisations, health facilities etc

Ultimately though we have personal responsibility to wash our hands

Nothing to really add, other than I’m not ashamed to say I’m very worried.

Reading the last week or so about the scenarios in the Italian hospitals are truly frightening and I expect the same /worse for here

I’m not buying into the elderly only nonsense

It was never just elderly only, it was also immunocompromised people of any age. The average age of death has been very high though.

Well actually, for many diseases/conditions, a society or lobby group exists in an English speaking country. Someone has already posted a link for this poster. Yesterday I posted links to the US asthma society's website for a poster concerned about asthma. So it's not really a bad place for this sort of general question.

Edit: It might be no harm to make up a list of such links and add it to the resources thread.

    France has around 2k cases.

    Germany has 1.5k cases.

Italy has over 10k cases and a 4% fatality rate.

It doesn't take a genius to work out something is wrong with the way Italy is handling it.

There is something unique about the situation in Italy.

Yes, the virus got a stronghold there 2 weeks earlier.

Natural selection!! A match in Germany tonight between Gladbach & Köln was held behind closed doors, but yet the fans still turn up out side. FFs like.

They are just ahead of other places. Most countries are following the same trajectory.

    Montenegro has 0 cases
it banned flights from china in February and Italy in late February.
Its only 350 miles away from Italy.
Only country with 0 cases in europe.

I'd be looking at places such as India, Bangladesh, Brazil for massive mortality rates. Unfortunately and sadly.

Sure agree they'll be even worse. I was talking about the US vs Europe.

Yeah. I know people like charts and seeing patters in growth etc but sometimes the drunkards stagger (randomness) can have a big impact.

Spoke to facebook friend from Italy. Says the numbers are extremely unreliable.Lots sick since end of January. Lots not getting tested if mild. Says he more than likely has it, flu symptoms atm. But it sounds like its been circulating for a relatively longer time than testing indicates. Few high profile cases now showing up too(Juventus players, doctor, parliament member)

I think QE is correct. Their clocks went forward. It's meant to be 20:00 eastern time.

Ukraine have closed all schools and universities today to stop the spread of the virus.
This is despite having only 1 confirmed case in a country of 42 million.

When pressed on why they are trying to stop the spread of a virus which doesn't exist they have admitted they haven't tested anyone and have just ordered their first 5,000 testing kits.
