I suspect that may be down to there being none to be had, and a lot of small businesses were caught out by this. Once they started looking for this sort of stuff it had probably already been picked up by larger organisations, health facilities etc

Ultimately though we have personal responsibility to wash our hands

Speaking to someone in the trade, the Irish stock was ready to be sent over from the UK but was diverted to Europe last week. Our shelves should be full as the orders were in and set for delivery.

The trajectory of new cases in the USA is ahead of the Italian curve at the same stage. Thank God they have strong and competent leadership to deal with this.

I think QE is correct. Their clocks went forward. It's meant to be 20:00 eastern time.

The "grown ups" who are predicting a complete shut down of society with bodies piled 10 feet deep in the streets?

Some old people and some very sick people are going to die from something other than what would normally kill them. It's unfortunate but it's going to happen.

17 posts, how many are on this thread?

We need someone young to take one for the team. Germany has a 2yr old with it that might wake us up if it happens here.

When are the HSE going to start testing people who came from Netherlands, Spain, etc.?

Jesus I thought the day time posts were bad

Yup...this thread is really very negative and a lot of posters are just provocative by nature. I have posted what I believed was a valid question and had very snappy horrible responses which were thanked. I don't feel good reading it. I'm out. Cue the smart responses but I won't see them so couldn't care less. Enjoy ripping each other to shreds.

Is this a crazy idea -

If you can work from home and get paid, do it. Great.
If you need to go to work to provide vital service, also do it.
If you have non vital job, and cannot work from home, how about govt gives all those people 1000 euros ( like a UBI payment) to stay home for a month. PAYE and self employed, all workers.
Even if every single worker in country got that it would be about 2 million x 1000 = 2 billion.
The govt spending annually is about 80 billion, so it would be 1/40th of that. But it might stop or slow a strain on health services that might result in a horrible situation in a month.

It would mean people could mind their children at home too. It would mean vital service workers would meet fewer who could make them sick.

Mortgage payments in UK are gearing up for possible repayment holiday, which could apply for that month. Landlords could get the UBI for the month and allow rent holiday. All the business owners that would have to shut would get the UBI.

Sounds like a lot of money but it might be cheaper than the country going to the wall with a heavy spread of virus that causes 10% or more of people to become quite sick.

Crazy? Okay maybe probably, but it is just a thought...
    Not crazy sensible

This disease mainly attacks the lung so as long as they're strong in that area they should be able to fight it off.

The issue with diseases like that is that many will be on drugs that suppress the immune system. So 'underlying conditions'. But I imagine they're at the lower end of concerns.

Just a few short weeks ago the mainstream media were telling us there was nothing to worry about and the risk of it spreading in Ireland was low...
I know it's a nice story to tell, but were they? Really? Do you have any examples?

Do you understand the pressure the HSE are going to be under , rhe impact of this on treatment availability? The Imapct on the Irish economy which is already in the doldrums ..the longer this goes on the worse its going to be for everyone in this country for our kids our parents etc etc. We are a small country isolated on the edge of Europe , of which our nearest neighbours arn't even in anymore. Business will go under because of this . We will all suffer for years to come because of this.

Again . what is your ****ing point?

Latest confirmed case is a Cork barrister.
Law library sent notice out to members. Building is closed for deep cleaning.
Apparently the courts are in the same building/complex. Will they be closed?

Not to mention more people will probably die from the resulting poverty brought on by a sustained economic crisis, so to put it bluntly a thinning of the herd is preferable to total economic collapse, terrible to say but the show must go on for the want of a better phrase

As a society we're better than this.
