Spoke to facebook friend from Italy. Says the numbers are extremely unreliable.Lots sick since end of January. Lots not getting tested if mild. Says he more than likely has it, flu symptoms atm. But it sounds like its been circulating for a relatively longer time than testing indicates. Few high profile cases now showing up too(Juventus players, doctor, parliament member)

    What's a high profile case?

The virus doesn't discriminate, either should the unfortunate people who get it be discriminated against.

There's nothing high profile about the sickness.

The trajectory of new cases in the USA is ahead of the Italian curve at the same stage. Thank God they have strong and competent leadership to deal with this.

Latest confirmed case is a Cork barrister.
Law library sent notice out to members. Building is closed for deep cleaning.
Apparently the courts are in the same building/complex. Will they be closed?

Talk in legal circles is that the Courts Service will close next week except for special sittings.

It makes sense. Court cases involve jurors from all across various communities coming together in confined spaces and then you have people from all backgrounds before the courts itself. You also have people in the prison service being brought to and from court on a daily basis and there are serious concerns of an outbreak taking hold in a prison.

It'll also free up Gardaí, they will need as many members as possible if there is a surge in those reporting sick. Serious issue.

So when do the HSE change the testing criteria, is it when confirmed cases go over 100, because if I get this and I am isolating but start having breathing problems and I keep getting the runaround with the testing criteria I WILL go to A&E as I will be fearing for my life. Of course I'll explain this as well as phoning my GP for him to explain to HSE my condition, but if I can't get that test I will be forced to present. Crossing my fingers I don't get it at all but would hate to catch it in a months time when they start the triage phase.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

The "grown ups" who are predicting a complete shut down of society with bodies piled 10 feet deep in the streets?

    Hey joke

    shop

This thing is on course to kill more people than WW1.

I don't know what sort of wake up call clowns need. Even the young and healthy have a fatality rate of over 0.2%.

Everybody is going to die some time, from something. Guess I can just call over to your place and cave your head in (mods, I'm not serious) as you will die eventually anyway.

If this was in relation to people who are in a vegetative state, or barely hanging onto life, then I'd agree with you. Saying that all people with diabetes and respiratory disease should just die is just an attempt at edgy sh*t.

I would think it a priority to keep the courts going at all costs. It could lead to an increase in crime if the courts aren't sitting.

My dad gets this he'll more likely die.

As a family, we'll put in place what ever is necessary to prevent him getting this.

I watched my mam die in an ICU in Oct 2017 and it's something I never want to go through again.

So, no offense, please go fu(,k yourself.

Trump said he and Pence were in charge. Ha, I can see it now. He'll blame the states if this gets out of hand but if it gets under control he'll take the credit.

Like a four year old. Yes you will be forced to present and have a little tantrum.

Not much comfort, but the overall ratio of mild as opposed to serious or critical cases continues to rise. Currently 89/11. Was 80, then to went to 87.

    In Italy its currently 90/10.

We have one of the strongest economies in the world.

Us being isolated is an advantage in this instance and you don't have to worry about your parents unless they are very old and your kids will experince only mild symptoms, if any at all because this virus doesn't target their age group.

My point is that people are over reacting and absolutely pulling the mickeys off themselves to the misery porn being pedalled by media who are currently in a slow news cycle.

Follow the simple instructions from the HSE, accept that some old and sick people are probably going to die and look back on all this in a few months time as just another Y2K, peak oil, SARS, Sellafield.

How old are you . I;m sorry but you are so stupid we are going to need proof af age .

This maths implies we can test enough people to achieve those numbers of infection. As such, it is interesting but not very practical.

I have a feeling when the cases are into the tens of thousands, people won't be tested. Doesn't mean that people aren't infected though.

    Yeah tested positive.
Is the child showing symptoms, getting sick?
Ffs you’d swear the child died with that sort of post.

I have a family member with Crohns Disease/Colitis.

Should we be concerned can someone please answer

IBD risk would mainly be associated with which medication they are taking as a lot of the meds are immunosuppressants so best to check with GP or IBD nurse

The impact of coronavirus on the Chinese and South Korean economies will be miniscule in the long run simply because they saw the value of flattening the curve as soon as possible. And both these countries value their economies hugely.

Anyone who thinks a rampant CV spread is a nessecary evil to protect a healthy economy is frankly an idiot.

The sooner we flatten the curve the sooner this will be over.
