Denmark now on lockdown similar to Italy.

Is it actually on lockdown or are they just closing schools and universities next week, for two weeks? Along with no essential public workers working from home where possible. There's a bit of a difference.

Seems he's also trying to apply it to goods and is waiving it for the UK.

Despite all his talk, that's pretty much the end of the global economy. Expect a massive recession in the morning.

Imbecile is going to turn recession in to depression.

    He's a blame merchant.

Ah yes, shirk off all responsibility to some nameless, faceless people in the EU advising them. That way they can never do wrong.
lol, so you expected them not to heed expert advice, WHO protocol, etc, and just do their own thing?

Doctors are not immune to the virus
Do you think they will be happy to see everyone who thinks they might have the virus? Risk infection and then bring it home?
plenty of Doctors in China are dead. plenty in Italy infected.
If this goes to Italian levels and possible higher the Doctors will be giving out sick certs on request, you will just phone up and ask and it will be there waiting for you in reception.
    100% guaranteed!

This needs to be re-iterated. Whenever there is a pandemic or other highly infective outbreak doctors and nurses get infected and die at high rates, usually higher than the rest of the population.

So, when this really hits there will be a tension between:
    A) putting doctors and nurses on the front lines to care for ill people and thus exposing them to illness and
    B) trying to protect them ( as a group ) enough so that when the doctors and nurses in the first wave of front line staff go down with COVID-19 there will be enough doctors and nurses to step in and continue caring for people while most of the first wave of sick doctors and nurses recover ( and a small number die ).

At that point in time the second wave will probably be sick but, hopefully, can be largely replaced by recovered doctors and nurses from the first wave - who, assuming there isn’t a second strain, will now have immunity.

So, after a little time, albeit at a very painful cost in dead doctors and nurses there will be growing herd immunity among those working directly with COVID-19 patients. This is one of the other benefits of slowing the spread because even a mild case of this could take two weeks to recover from so everything we can do to slow the spread helps.

At this stage, as you can see, at some level this is just a numbers game of replacing ill and dead medical staff until such time as the ill can return to work with immunity and begin providing a quite resilient service. The doctors and nurses are going to be the people going into the fire everyone else is running away from.

As to people bashing the HSE... I really think that at this time support would go a lot farther than further bashing. Some of the people you’re bashing are going to be dead in 3 months after having done their best, I’m no fan of HSE management but support will help far more than bashing at this stage.... There will be plenty of time a year from now to do a post-mortem and apportion responsibility but for right now support for all levels of the HSE ( but especially the front line staff ) should really be the order of the day.

And the best way you, as individuals, can support front line staff is by hand washing and social distancing/isolation AND persuading all those people you know who are saying “its just another flu” and intend to go out on Paddy’s day weekend that that’s a stupid idea. Slow the rate of spread and stop front line staff being overwhelmed.

As if it'll make a difference. They already have rampant community transmission occuring in the US. By the end of next week they'll have 10,000 cases or more.

He has been pissed with with the EU over trade for ages. Just another way for him to push his "America first" policy.
