I think at this stage a forum should be set up for this. The thread in CA is extremely fast moving and people are discussing all sorts of things that could each have their own threads. And honestly, I'm sick of some of the nonsense continually posted in there. If it was kept to it's own threads then at least it can be avoided!

    Hi ceadaoin.,

There is a forum request here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2058057890

My own view would be that multiple threads would result in lots of crossover in subject matter between the various threads and that it would make it even harder to moderate. Yes, the megathread is very fast moving, but would multiple threads be easier to follow?

The way things are now is there much point, or is it even fair, to protect the sanctity of crossover in threads? People may want to ask specific questions for advice etc and the single main coronavirus thread is so fast moving that it’s basically like a crowd of people in a room shouting at the top of their voices. It’s absolutely useless at this stage.
We’re all in this, so could Boards not try to help rather than the opposite to protect moderation? It can go back to that whenever (if) this all ends.

    Covid 19: The science thread
    Covid 19: The panic thread
    Covid 19: The conspiracy thread
    Covid 19: Death Count
Covid 19: Do I need extra toilet rolls?
Covid 19: Our gubberment is terrible
    ect.

I, like many others have an interest in and questions on the topic but I won't wade through the quagmire of the megathread. The noise to signal ratio is just too great as it stands.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Depending on what the query / advice being sought is, there may be better forums. There are threads all around the site to cater for people of different interests and expertise. For discussion about school closures, there is Teaching & Lecturing, those interested in Farming have Farming & Forestry, those wondering about how it impacts their holidays / whether it's worth the risk have Travel, and Health Sciences can offer more technical discussion, and so on.

These forums not only offer a place for people to discuss the relevant subissue of the coronavirus outbreak, but in some cases offer more specialised users.

Beasty provided a thread of resources from official bodies and sources, which can be added to if people have additional suggestions.

As I said, this is my opinion. It's something that can be discussed.

Can we have a forum for herpes? I've got a lot of questions about it.

We’ve already seen cases of “We have a coronavirus thread already. Closed.” Maybe even a bit of leeway considering the situation. I do understand it’s not easy to moderate it all, and the resources are very handy, but maybe if the admins could open a few different sticky threads on different aspects it might help people that just have a simple query.

We actually have 5 or 6 open thread in CA, but only a couple of them show much activity

In my view it's better for specialist areas to be discussed in relevant forums, with general points being discussed in the main CA thread. Having waded through 50,000 or so posts (OK probably only 40,000 or so of them), and indeed deleted and otherwise actioned maybe 1,000 of them, it would be a complete nightmare having to keep an eye on multiple threads simultaneously

We've put together a collection of all Coronavirus-related threads across the site, if anyone would like to take a look it is here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1863

Closing this as a forum request is already in place as linked by Mark below.
