I have a flight for me and my family to New York on the 2nd week of April with Aer Lingus. Now that Ireland is banned, does that mean flights will be cancelled and I will be refunded? Haven't heard anything from them.

Not sure, the flight might be cancelled or it may not, they may just prompt you to change the date to later in the year

What about the air crew. I presume they won’t be allowed off unless they are US citizens

Air crew are exempt. They have a specific visa.
Saw a section of the DHS online yesterday.

Regarding Aer Lingus. Their twitter/Facebook yesterday had a msg along the lines of
"we are innundated with calls, all guests will be accommodated but to do so we can only deal with those with plans within the next 72 hours"

I'm going to guess that EI have no idea what the situation will be like in April. No one does.

Yeah, hopefully I'll get some sort of communication from them in the next few days. I'm not sure when it'd be safe to reschedule the trip for, so I'm hoping they just cancel it. Thanks lads

Not all flights will be cancelled, but many will be. You will most likely be offered an alternative flight. If you can't go because you are affected by the US entry ban, EI will probably suggest that you should claim on your travel insurance.

So I was supposed to be heading to Vegas via London in 3 weeks and was expecting a full refund but BA still seem to be flying that route daily.

As above, I do understand that the crew are exempt but are they just flying empty aircraft as this is probably cheaper than refunding thousands of people and just offering them a voucher instead?

Or are they still flying for the next few days to bring folks home?

I just don't think its a route where US citizens would be travelling back and forth on unlike JFK etc.

    TIA

Probably repatriation flights with a bit of cargo.

I see many casinos are closing off their own bat.

Yes I saw they were closing - right up until May 1st as well so that is some stretch.

So my best option would be to hold out and hope for the flight to eventually be cancelled.

BA just sent an email with a link to a voucher so they are probably hoping for people to go down that route and keep their cash flow going.

So I just got an email from Aer Lingus to either rebook without a fee or apply for a voucher. The voucher will be for the full value of the flight plus an extra 10%. So if you paid €1,000 for your flight, you will get a voucher for €1,100.

I suppose I'll just go down the voucher route. I was holding out for a full refund but that doesn't look like it will be an option any time soon.

I suppose if they operate the flight it’s not your fault you aren’t allowed into the US. I’d wait as late as possible, if they cancel the flight, you’ll get a refund. If not, take the voucher.

So many of may know that BA have been sending people to a voucher page when their flight is cancelled as opposed to a refund page.

This hero below came up with a solution ensures you get your refund...

    https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/03/19/how-to-trigger-an-online-avios-flight-refund-using-google-chrome/

Got mine today after trying them on the phone and no answer.

Sure isn't the preclearance at Irish airports on American territory?

    Not sure about uk

Not that it matters a fig at the moment, but no, preclearance at DUB and SNN is very firmly in Irish territory (as there isn’t any US territory here)

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/cb8ce1-us-preclearance/

And there isn’t any preclearance in UK

Except when the immigration officer wouldn’t let me bring my Burger King burger to the gate as “this was American soil”
I’m guessing he was just explaining it in simplistic terms.

    A. He was wrong.

    B. Even if he were right, how would that be an explanation? Burger King isn'[t banned on US soil.

There are restrictions on bringing meat and dairy products into the US.

Given that Trump is talking aggressively now about re-opening the US as quickly as he can, we might see restrictions on passengers coming from the US given the fairly predictable result we're going to see in the population if that occurs.

There's already a 30 day plan in place on non EU citizens entering the EU.

Sorry yes, further restrictions I should say. Seems they're gonna go for herd immunity and economy at all costs.
